I'm astounded that all three of these Pittsburgh guys (incl the OP) don't understand the concept of "rental value." I'm with @Windjammer and @IconicHawk -- this trade is awful for Winnipeg.

I didn't realize that until after I posted. It's amazing how some fans "ignore" contact situation when trying to dump players they no longer want and try and get a young player they do want.

You're out of money, your fourth line is yikes, and at the first sign of injury it's Niku on defense and Toninato or Perfetti in the forward group. Plus you've traded two decent assets for a single season of meh. And you overpaid Stats by about a million. I like the Oleksiak acquisition though .

I think it's a well thought out trade it does address needs for both teams. Pit wants size and needs a player like Copp can fill in for Malkin and a LD replacement for Petterson who will be gone one way or another. Rust would be one of the best forwards on the jets play PP and PK and would be one of the top scorers. Desmith would challenge for starting G as he has every year he played. He he's been one of the best backups if not the best.
