The value is fine for the Jets trade, but the Jets don't make this trade IMHO. Just no need for a guy like Domi in our lineup. I think we're only in the market for a bonafide upgrade over Namestnikov at 2C, or a 13th forward type. Domi just doesn't represent an upgrade over Namestnikov as we speak today.

You know what. If you want to adjust this for greater realism -- trade Helle to LA for picks and prospects, and instead of DeBrincat on line 2, the Jets re-sign Namestnikov.

Hellebuyck doesn't sign with Ottawa, And if DeBrincat doesn't want to sign with Ottawa. He sure as hell isn't signing with Winnipeg. And Winnipeg won't give Cat the 8 x $9,000,000 he's looking for either.</div></div>
I think Hellebuyck would sign anywhere if the team is good -- he's an outdoorsman country dude, he's not a metropolitan kinda guy at all. There's a reason his last contract was a 6-year deal with Winnipeg. He just doesn't want to be part of a rebuild.
Though I do agree on DeBrincat for the most part. Still fun to think about though -- if Chevy stays on as Jets GM, I can just see him wanting DeBrincat with the blind hope of "rebuilding while staying competitive"
Also -- isn't O'Reilly a pending UFA? Ofc if they re-sign him then they wouldn't have room for Scheif, but given his performance with the leafs I can't see them having cap space to keep him, unless he takes a huge hometown discount.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Burnout</b></div><div>I'm all for using the Trouba trade as a framework. But since it was 20th OA and Pionk (who was an undrafted 24 year old and the D the Rangers were most willing to move in a trade with Skjei, DeAngelo, Fox, Miller, etc. on the team/in the system) for a 50 point D-man, I'm not sure Jets fans would want to use it as one. A comparable wouldn't be the Florida 1st and Dach, it would be the Florida 1st and guy like Gurianov.</div></div>
Pionk was undrafted, but he was also coming off a season where he averaged 22 minutes a night for New York and I think that isn't meaningless. Besides, MTL will likely want to move $$$ out back to WPG in the trade, considering Dubois is going to want like $9M a season. Unfortunately, Montreal's trade chips are all either young rookie contracts or are overpaid veterans with negative trade value (i.e. Josh Anderson). Dach is the only guy that fits the bill as a) not a top prospect b) a roster player and c) years of term at a $3M+ salary.
Though, the Jets are in a different position now than they were in 2019, so maybe the Jets just eat a Dvorak/Anderson contract in order to get another pick or a better prospect in the package.

I'd rather just put Pionk in the press-box than give that much up to get rid of him (and to not even get a top 4 RD back in return no less). Henrique has basically the same contract as Pionk and Henrique sure as heck isn't a world beater.

This would be a much different scenario than the scenario I played out above where the Jets just kind of build for contendership right now.
I don't hate it though? I'd have to think about what the implications would be for the rest of the roster -- we'd need to go get a Schmaltz or someone to play 2nd line center asap or enter a re-tool I guess.

Red Wings are rumored to be either A) buying him out in the off-season or B) trading him now. The guy has played four games all year and is fresh out of rehab. Getting a fringe roster player and a mid-pick at half retained is more than a fair offer IMO. If DET just buys him out, they're taking a cap penalty of $1.4 next year and $1.9 the year after.
I would think the option of just having the retained $2.6M next year is without question preferable for Detroit, no? Especially as Detroit continues to move closer to being a contender by then.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Jets33</b></div><div>Instead of Dillon, we should get rid of Pionk</div></div>
I don't think the Jets would want to do that for Chychrun -- that'd leave us with only DeMelo as a right handed dman.
I think it's either Schmidt or Dillon that'd get moved, with Schmidt being who the Jets would like to move (he gets 3rd pairing ice time), but given his salary, term and partial NTC, Dillon is a much easier candidate to include in a trade.
As much as Jets fans want to move Pionk, he gets treated as thr Jets #2 dman still and as such I can't see him getting moved now, especially for another left-handed dman.

The Jets don't want that Hoffman contract, even at 50% retained. We're cap crunched for this season and next... no reason to cheap out. We're going big game hunting while our core is still under contract (Dubois, Scheifele, Hellebuyck, etc.)

That is a lot to ask. The Jets aren't going to want to give up two roster players PLUS a 1st and a 2nd for a rental, even one like ROR. Heinola, a 1st and a 3rd feels more realistic to me, IMO. A higher-end prospect that doesn't directly take away from our lineup. Idk. Prices seem nuts so maybe your ask will be met, but I can't imagine the Jets doing that.

Personally I'd like to see him and Pionk together, moving DeMelo back to play with DeMelo. Or he could just play with DeMelo as well. Although that would def not be radical centrism lol. And at this point I'd be pretty surprised if he made the team over Heinola/Stanley, I have a feeling he's behind both in the eyes of the coaching staff

Winnipeg Jets Opening Night Lineup
"I would love to see another take on Pionk with Morrisey on the top pairing. Pionk is in desperate need of a bounce back season, and I don't think he is going to get that on a line with Dillon. I also feel that DeMelo is the perfect D partner for Heinola on the 3rd pairing."
100% agreed. DeMelo and Morrissey make a good pairing, but the ceiling for Morrissey-Pionk is well above the level of play we can get out of Morrissey-DeMelo, it's our only shot at having a true number one d-pairing. Obviously there's a chance it doesn't work, they don't have chemistry and/or Pionk continues to struggle, but if they did work out it'd be huge and like you said, it opens up DeMelo to be able to help another high ceiling player in Heinola with his steady defensive play. I'd also like to see it tried in that I wasn't overly enthused by the chemistry between Pionk and Dillon last year, I'm not super keen on running that one back.
I do think Samberg will beat out Heinola for the last spot on defense though. Honestly I really don't know how we're going to figure that one out. Stanley seems like a lock for the press box right now, with Heinola being heralded as the guy who deserves a spot and has played well, while Samberg has also looked good but fills a positional need better than Heinola, IMO -- we already have Morrissey, Schmidt and Pionk as offensive defensemen who can run a PP and our defense is pretty small -- another guy who can play on the PK and has some size in Samberg does seem more fitting given our lineup.

I agree with this outside of paying out the ***. I think there are a lot of contenders that would love to add him, but just not at that salary. CUt it in half (hopefully by routing him through a team that needs to get to the cap floor).</div></div>

Rumor is that the Jets don't want to retain salary on Wheeler lol. Otherwise, I'd agree. Retain like 30% to 50% and send him to Florida or something

There is not a chance in France we have to add a pick, a player AND retain $3M in salary just to get the best team in the league's 1st rounder, their 2025 2nd rounder and JT Compher. and I like JT Compher. but that is just a ridiculous low ball.

Calgary would absolutely consider this trade. You guys need to remember that like literally every other offer Calgary is going to get for Tkachuk -- who just requested a trade, mind you -- will be all futures.
If Calgary wants to stay competitive, this is one of, if not the only serious offer they will receive. Obviously its not a slam dunk for them as they will get older and take on a lot of cap. But its an offer they would absolutely take a long look at.
IMO the real issue is getting Tavares to waive his NMC. That's a lot to ask for mr. leafs pyjamas. Maybe another first round implosion and I could see it

There's 30 other teams out there... this trade offer looks like what the Jets might look to get for him if they traded him at the 2023 deadline as a pending UFA. It's understandable why a MTL fan wouldn't want to offer much for him, considering theyre assuming they can just get him for free in 2024 as a FA, but the Jets can simply do a lot better than that offer at this point.
If the Canadiens want him today, they need to offer more than an overpaid middle-6 forward, a busting prospect, mailloux and a late first round pick.

I mean all things considered, the Jets could probably be convinced by a good offer to go full blow up mode and trade Helly so no hate for trying.
But the asking price starts at like three or four 1st round picks, IMO. It would have to be huge. You're talking about a top three goalie in the league who only makes $6.16M for two full seasons before UFA.
This just isn't even close to enough
