I agree with your offensive analysis, it’s well thought out and reasoned, thank you. I do think that Dubois, if he plays as well as he did in 19-20 will add another dimension to the forward core, and Prefetti will add that dimension to the top 6 by 22-23. Landeskog and Saad are the wrong players to replace Wheeler and Stastny in the top 6 regardless of the rest of the roster.
On D, I do disagree. The advance metrics on puck retrieval and zone entries and exists are horrible.
The zone entries, I see two issues. The first is the forwards. Too often there is poor back pressure through the neutral zone. Scheifele and Conner are frequent culprits of this. The simple don’t play a 200 foot game consistently. They NEED to improve. This opens the d-gap and other teams enter the zone too easily. If you watch Morrisey, when he plays with AHL/NHL tweeter partners, his gap (and zone denial) metrics are garbage....why, his gaps aren’t nearly as good. He doesn’t trust his partner the same way he trusts Demelo, a good, if not great Top 4 d. Is this Morrissey’s fault, most Winnipeg fans blame him, I don’t. His partners aren’t good enough. The Jets need to solve this. Demelo is an option though.
Pionk needs a true top 4 partner. Stanley is a huge risk as a top 4 d next year. So the Jets need to sign at least 1 top 4 D. Martinez would be a great addition. Hamilton is a pipe dream luxury. If Demelo is your #5 team, you have a strong D, if he’s your #2/3D, you need work on the back end. Heinola could be really good, but he needs to develop a lot to reach his potential. Where he does that, I think in the NHL on the left side of the 3rd pairing, against players not named MacKinnon and Patrick Kane.
