Description
Just a list of ideas for a Schmidt trade. I think the Canucks should be targeting a RD or a 3C with the deal though a middle 6 fwd could work too.

I don’t think any of these get accepted. You’re overvaluing Schmidt here

If you could get Schmidt to waive and go to Winnipeg, the Jets would be interested, but it wouldn't be for Copp.

Is Nate Schmidt good? He was a couple years ago but looking at his stats he's basically Shayne Gostisbehere but less productive a lot of the time and everyone thinks Ghost sucks

Ya I think everyone accepted he was worth more than that but Vegas had to shed salary to sign Pietrangelo. He is a sure fired top 4 dman. Who had a somewhat down yr but was consistently good enough that you could reasonably think he'll bounce back.

He had a down yr but he's a different player to Ghost. He is much better defensively. He plays match up minutes and is really good in transition.

Sure but you also free yourself up to make other signing if Jenner doesn't work out. If he does you'll have a great chance to resign him.
Copp would be our 3rd line center I was thinking.
Ya Manson might not be the best because of UFA status I just though if you have to trade Schmidt it would be a chance to get a solid piece that helps this yr. And again resign if he works out.

When I think of him I typically think of him as a more offensive minded player thats mainly why I was asking

Ya before he arrived in Van I though of him as that too. His offense comes from him transitioning the puck really well. I think if he played with a more defensive partner it would be an ideal shut down pair and he could showcase his offense a bit more. He's an all arounder, not physical but great skater, aggressive and good engine.

Ya I think everyone accepted he was worth more than that but Vegas had to shed salary to sign Pietrangelo. He is a sure fired top 4 dman. Who had a somewhat down yr but was consistently good enough that you could reasonably think he'll bounce back.

In October he was worth 3rd round pick.
                Then he has down year.
So now he is worth Severson?

The price should be no more than 3rd round pick. Probably less.

Again it was a deal that Vegas was forced to do quickly to make the Piertangelo deal happen. No way they do that if they aren't signing Pietrangelo. You don't trade top 4 defenseman for 3rd round picks.

The reason it could make sense is Schmidt is signed for longer and the 39th pick is included. It might not be the right package but just throwing it out there. I think Schmidt and Severson are similar quality players. Severson is younger and on a cheaper contract so worth more.
