This is terrible for CHI. Caleb Jones is the even that good. He's just getting an inflated value right now because it's possible he can be used as a chip to get his brother. If it wasn't for that...they wouldn't want Caleb.

The Blackhawks don't want to retain for take on salary, so getting them to do both is not going to happen. You need to take out Koskinen and Turris or have Keith at full price and take out Turris.

I don’t see hawks taking on all that cap just to get Jones. As bad as Keith has been, turris has been worse and koisken contract is just as bad.

The hawks would be better off just putting Keith on waivers.

Koskinen has 1 year left and is definitely better than malcolm subban. Turris is sent to the minors before he even gets to chicago. If they buy out Koskinen and send Turris to the minors then it is even cap to keeping keith.

explain to me how this deal at all benefits Chicago? To dump the koskinen+turris package to any other team (6.15 million x 1 year) it costs at least a 2nd probably more, to get that retention on kieth costs you a 2nd, and kieth himself has positive value. Caleb jones doesn't justify all that, he's not even that good

They're not buying anyone out. They'll waive Mikko because he’s probably not even better than Subban, but can help Lindblom learn the ropes in the AHL. Additionally, if they waive him...then he might actually have trade value for a team like TOR because the Hawks would retain 50% and he'd go directly to the Marlies to be called up whenever TOR feels like it. Possibly even trade Mikko with Shaw for LTIR purposed after the season starts.

I'll accept turris and also waive him to go to Rockford because the ice Hogs need veteran leadership down there.

The Hawks don't want to trade Keith, but he's asked to be closer to his family so they'll take a serious look into it. Holland has said they're mutual interest between the Oilers and Keith. Now let's make sure the Hawks as an organization are on board.

Chicago isnt the one with the leverage. Keith has a contract that you can't buy out and hes only worth about 2 million if he was a free agent.

Chicago doesn't need to trade him. We have PLENTY of money. Look at any chicago agm and you will see. Hawks don't even want to trade kieth, kieth asked for a trade to be closer to his family and the hawks are willing to accommodate that. Oilers stepped up as a team interested. Oilers aern't the team with the leverage here, because the hawks would rather keep kieth than trade him.

if you have lots of money then taking Koskinen isn't an issue you will play him 30 games and not resign him the following year. You could arguably take out the draft pick but edmonton isnt paying for keith they are shuffling contracts to make the money work and open up cap flexibility so they can make a splash this offseason.

Paying Koskinen isn't a problem, but that doesn't mean we do it for free. Teams with lots of money take cap dumps all the time for picks in return, it's how it works. If you don't want to pay to dump your deadweight than buy it all out yourself

I'm not suggesting it'll cost this much at all, but $6M for Marleau was a mid 1st round pick. Marleau had a full NMC and the $6M needed to stay with CAR.

There has to be something in it for edmonton keith still doesn't live up to what they would be paying him in this AGM. What are they getting for Caleb Jones? He's not terrible he's great with the puck and a phenomenal skater.

The player is rumored to have made a trade request for personal reasons. The rumored request would appear to suggest Edmonton as the optimum destination for the player. As the story goes, it seems the Blackhawks are prepared to honor the trade request if doing so clears up caps space so that they can pursue their own agenda. However, the Oilers also have an agenda that they would like to pursue, and Duncan Keith is an option only if the cumulative cap hit is significantly less than $5.5M.

Neither the Hawks nor the Oilers have leverage and I suspect this rumor will remain just a rumor.

I have said all along I think Koskinen OR Neal+Jones+2022 2nd is fair comp for Kieth. It should cost a 1st for a team to take the neal buyout, its 2 mil for the next 4 years on the cap or 4.875 mil x 2 if you bury him
