I wouldn't trade Rielly and Nylander by themselves for Doughty and Kopitar let alone adding all the valuable pieces. Lol

I mean you guys are both right. This trade makes no sense for either team. LAK are trying to come out of the rebuild hence the Ardvisson trade and the want of another top 6 fwd so Kopitar and Doughty (they love him even tho he’s bad) aren’t going anywhere. And adding 2 more long term 10+M contracts make zero sense for the leafs especially a center.

It makes a lot of sense. Kings can quicken their rebuild by going younger and faster. Rielly is a replacement for Doughty.

And the Leafs need Stanley cup experience and leadership to make the best out of their three big forwards who they are not going to trade. They have a three year window to win. There is no guarantee that Matthews will stick around after that and Tavares will start declining soon. Kopitar and Doughty can feel rejuvenated in a stanley cup chash.

No it doesn’t. And the leafs won’t be cap complaint so it’s all moot.

Leafs are already so top cap heavy. Why would they do this??

Maybe for Nylander, Kerfoot and Rielly. Anymore would be crazy. Doughty contract and term are atrocious.

You are adding their top prospects, a young RHD, with 1st round pedigree, who is NHL ready or close to it, a 1st round pick and a “B”, “B-“ prospect in Hallander. Plus Nylander, Kerfoot and Rielly..lol.

You arnt trading Gretzky and Lindros both at the same time..

How about the Kings trade the SJS,
A.Kaliyev(Amirov)
A.Lafallo(Nylander),
M.Roy(Rielly),
S.Durzi(Liljegren),
A.Athanasiou(Kerfoot),
1st round pick, and
Akil Thomas(Hallander) for Couture and Karlsson.

They get a top prospect, a top 6 wing, a top pairing RHD, a RHD prospect close to NHL ready, a mid 6 Center/Wing, a 1st round pick, and a “B” prospect, to take two aging/fading players with very large contracts.

Kopitar and Doughty are Cup winners and they are currently better than Couture and Karlsson. They each have 3-4 years left of elite level play. Karlsson can barely skate. It's not comparable.

Is it an over payment? Yes. But Kopitar and Doughty are Kings legends so the offer has to be overwhelming for the front office to even consider trading them.

And the Leafs should be desperate enough to do something like this. They have signaled to the league that they are willing to overpay in trades. If Dubas is so reckless as to dish out a first for Foligno then it suggests future assets don't matter to the Leafs management.

Pretty damn close. Almost the exact same. Very similar.

Doughty is 31 years old. Makes 10M for 6 more seasons. 113 points in 205 games the last 3 seasons(.55PPG).

Karlsson is 31 too. Makes 11.5M for 6 more seasons. 107 points in 161 games the last 3 seasons(.66PPG).

Couture is 31 years old, makes 8M for 6 more seasons. 142 points in 186 games the last 3 seasons(.76PPG).

Kopitar is 33(the oldest) and makes 10M for 3 seasons. 172 points in 207 games the last 3 seasons(.82PPG).

Yea, it's a big gamble. No question. But Kopitar and Doughty have won two cups so that makes them more expensive and also more appealing.

And there is such a thing as a Stanley Cup tax. If Coleman signs for a new team this off season, teams will step in line to overpay.

Lol. Sure thing. They won’t be traded. No way u can unload those contracts at that age without retaining or adding assets.

Obviously not the biggest trade in the thread but I don’t think Ottawa has any interest in Mikheyev. That probably gets declined.
