Description
Bad contracts for "bad contracts", I say that because Klefbom isn't really a bad contract, just can't stay healthy, and forgive me if you've heard this before but his shoulder won't be healthy enough to go-by the sounds of it for the majority/if not all of 2021-2022 season. Instead of worrying about giving up draft pick compensation for the Hawks to take Neal, they can take LTIR relief, which is believed to be what they're after to do a sign and trade with Columbus for Jones.. Can buyout Neal should they want to and save $3m+ there, and the additional $4.167m from Klef's deal...
If there are no takers for Turris keep him for depth, or bury his deal for cap space if needed..

I love the thought process here. I think Keith is still a serviceable 2nd pairing guy and he's a winner with a ton of experience.

I don't think Columbus does that deal though and I also think Hall stays in Boston.
Good team though.

Hawks won't buy out Neal. They'll take their lumps for 2 years vs smaller lumps for 4 years. They can take the cap space now pretty easily. No reason to push that into a situation where they won't be able to take that cap hit.

That was exactly my thoughts on Keith, he seems pissed off that Colliton has disrespected him soo much to be a bottom pairing D man to play 15mins a night.. Guy can still skate, move the puck and has a winning pedigree, he's ideal for the Oilers ready to take the next step!! From what I've been reading and seeing Boston may not be able to keep Hall, unless he signs a super team friendly deal, PLUS, he's already said he has unfinished business in Edmonton-which is why I think he would possibly come back to play with Connor, Leon and Nuge... And yes, I feel the Columbus deal could be far fetched, but maybe they make it a condition on playoff runs and Columbus could get the 1st Rd pick next year if Edmonton makes it to the final 4, but I do know they'll need a backup and he's a solid backup, with some money retained could be helpful- makes sense to retain $1.5m of his deal for Edmonton given that would be his buyout amount, and take the hit for 1 year as opposed to 2 years...

I wouldn't see them buying him out this year, maybe next if he doesn't play well, then take smaller lump sums for as opposed to 4. But, even if they did this deal they'd still be saving $$ this year regardless, Connolly and Keith are roughly $9m, Klefbom will be LTIR so Neal alone this season saves them $3.25m in space for the potential Jones deal...

Please stay away from Hall. He wasn't a fit and won't be a fit. He'd be too expensive for what he'd bring to the Oilders.

I rather take my chance on Klefbom than to take on Conolly.

I don't know if Elvis is the (long term) solution and thus I don't want him (for that price). Imo there is similar options in FA and we'd be losing less/nothing.

Yeah, I hear ya on the Elvis thing, I like Ullmark a lot to take over the spot with Koskinen and platoon for a year with Smith while the young Russian goalie or Rodrigue play more North American professional hockey..
I think I am just over Klefbom and his shoulder, I love when he's in the lineup, the question is when will he be in the lineup, with Keith taking over as the 2nd or 3rd LHD it makes Klef expendable, and yes he has regressed a bit and is going to be 38, but the dude is in crazy good shape, is super healthy, can still skate, and move the puck, I can see a significant increase for the analytical nerds to stop complaining with him making passes to Connor, Leon on the breakouts rather than Strome or Pius Suter(with all due respect to both players, guys I like on the Hawks), but it's also the intangibles you can't really teach, that comes from experience, and what hasn't the dude experienced? Norris-check, Conn Smythe-Check, Gold Medals-Check, Stanley Cups-check, he can help with the development of not only Bouchard, and Broberg, but even Nurse to get to that next echelon...
For the Hall portion I get what you're saying, but should the Oilers not make any FA signings for goalies, and acquire one via trade, they'd only have soo many assets to bring in another winger elsewhere, which is why I looked to Free Agency jic, and realistically he's the best of what they need...

I think if the oilers can find a deal that has Keith + Strome, it would help them tremendously. Obviously they would have to add something a lot more significant, but it would solve the void on McDavids line as well.

It's definitely going to be interesting to see what Holland can pull off.
