The only significant extensions that would be needed next offseason are Campbell and Sandin. Regardless, if no progress is made Mitch is as good as gone imo.

To a lot of fans running it back with this core is delusional as is. If we're sitting here next season with 6th consecutive first round exits there's no chance all the big four stay.

If Garland signed that sort of contract ARI wouldn't be moving him.

    I reckon you're $2M+ short on him.

Not like ARI is doing this trade mind you. Kerfoot and Engvall don't really change anything, and ARI is not moving two top-6 forwards for a pending UFA D-men. That's inconceivable.

What’s the plan for 22/23 when you only have 11.6 mil in cap and only 11 players under contract.

I like how ARI would give away two great forwards for 2 bottom 6 guys and what would become their third best LHD. But that's somehow not even the worst part of this ACGM. Because Dougie signs for less than both Trouba and Spurgeon who both signed new contracts fairly recently...

How much more? In a covid cap era I doubt he gets that much over 8 unless its a massive overpay. It's been reported by Friedman that he'd like to sign close to home, so will a few million sway him to sign elsewhere?"

Continue plugging the holes with players on their ELC and cheap depth. As I mentioned in an earlier reply, if there's no progress move Marner.

What would you say Rielly fetches as a pure rental? I understand Arizona may not be the right fit, but with them shopping OEL and having hopes to make some progress eventually, who knows. I wanted to seek Dvorak and Garland, you can imagine it as a three way trade if you'd like. You can make the 2nd I gave a 1st, throw in prospects, it doesn't really matter. It's more about the roster than anything.

Lost me at third best D. I'll give you Chychrun but who's the other? OEL lmao?

Trouba and Spurgeon both signed before covid, a better comparable is Pietrangelo who signed for 8.8m last offseason, but Pietrangelo is much better defensively. I suppose it depends if there's any truth to what Friedman said about wanting to sign closer to home and if he's got a soft spot for the team he grew up cheering for. https://pbs.twimg.com/media/Egtx04SXYAIfyh_.jpg

By no means am I treating it like Gospel, but when Friedman says something there's always something behind it. Regardless, in all likelihood the Leafs extend Rielly, and don't go after Hamilton.

Yes, I have Chychrun as their best d-man, OEL is in my eyes third atm, but I'm not sure if they resign Goligoski for next year. Rielly had one good year 3 years ago so I would rather put him in the same category as Gustafsson, DeAngelo and Gostisbehere who were also briefly thought of as superstars, than consider him to be on par with players who have solid season-to-season records. So yes, I consider OEL to be better than him.

Yes, sure take Pietrangelo who signed 8.8M until the age of 37, you aren't getting as much out of those 2-3 last years. You have signed Dougie until he's 34. Everyone always want to go to Toronto for less since they are Toronto, right? Well, I can only remember that happening with around 5 players: Tavares (not really a discount), Spezza (yummy, his prime years!), Thornton (he's still getting better, teams were probably lining up to get him), Marleau (there must have been a bidding war here for this UFA), Simmonds (The JvR-Bozak-Kadri PP in one player! Wow what a great signing). If you have some other examples of when this has actually happened, please enlighten me.

Your take on Rielly is insane. You claim he had one(?) good season 3 years ago and then compare him to players who actually had one successful season playing in sheltered roles. Nobody is claiming Rielly is good defensively but that slander is ridiculous, and you're not giving him the credit he's due offensively.

In terms of a "discount" I'm not talking about 2 million per off like Tavares took to sign here over the Sharks, or the extra year + mil that the Islanders offered him, I'm talking about a few hundred thousand off what I imagine another real contender would offer. I'm not even sure what to say about your tangent about other discounts, you just started naming random signings and ****ting on them? Why does there have to be specific Leaf related examples within the past few years, when you named Tavares and Spezza. You can go with Panarin with NYR who turned down more money from the Islanders, funny how all the elite players seem to take less when the alternative is to play for the Islanders, huh? On the plus side they can load up on all the best 4th line talent the league has ever seen!

Ok, Rielly is better than DeAngelo, Gostisbehere and Gustafsson. But I don't consider him to be a top D-man in the NHL. I would say around OEL, maybe slightly worse. But getting Garland and Dvorak for him and scraps is just not going to happen. Garland alone is worth more than that package.

I know haha, the islanders have it tough and I love it! I'm just worried that will change soon since they're actually proven contenders losing only to the SC-winner in conference finals 2 years in a row (assuming TB will beat MTL). The reason I am talking about TML discounts is because everyone always talks about discounts for players coming to Toronto. I think players are more likely to take discounts to play for a contender than to play for their hometowns. The hometown discount seems to mainly affect players who have passed their prime and are finishing their careers at minimum wage for 1 year. Therefore I just listed all the times the hometown discount has applied to TML.
