Not really a lot of youth, but 3 ELCs at the same time is probably a record for the Isles the last decade

Graves was traded to NJD for Maltsev and a second after the season where he led the NHL in +/-, and had term remaining. But sure, Bellows and Aho are available to be added as fodder.

Also for the second line, I know how the russians tend to like being inward shooting, so they can switch too. But if I did that, they would score way too many goals, so I had to restrict myself to make it a bit more interesting :P

Francouz has had his injury problems, so now he will no longer have to worry about them. They're in the past :) Also, having Raanta back to his pre-injured times would be more than enough!

Teach me how to Dougie
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Space</b></div><div>Your take on Rielly is insane. You claim he had one(?) good season 3 years ago and then compare him to players who actually had one successful season playing in sheltered roles. Nobody is claiming Rielly is good defensively but that slander is ridiculous, and you're not giving him the credit he's due offensively.
In terms of a "discount" I'm not talking about 2 million per off like Tavares took to sign here over the Sharks, or the extra year + mil that the Islanders offered him, I'm talking about a few hundred thousand off what I imagine another real contender would offer. I'm not even sure what to say about your tangent about other discounts, you just started naming random signings and ****ting on them? Why does there have to be specific Leaf related examples within the past few years, when you named Tavares and Spezza. You can go with Panarin with NYR who turned down more money from the Islanders, funny how all the elite players seem to take less when the alternative is to play for the Islanders, huh? On the plus side they can load up on all the best 4th line talent the league has ever seen!</div></div>
Ok, Rielly is better than DeAngelo, Gostisbehere and Gustafsson. But I don't consider him to be a top D-man in the NHL. I would say around OEL, maybe slightly worse. But getting Garland and Dvorak for him and scraps is just not going to happen. Garland alone is worth more than that package.
I know haha, the islanders have it tough and I love it! I'm just worried that will change soon since they're actually proven contenders losing only to the SC-winner in conference finals 2 years in a row (assuming TB will beat MTL). The reason I am talking about TML discounts is because everyone always talks about discounts for players coming to Toronto. I think players are more likely to take discounts to play for a contender than to play for their hometowns. The hometown discount seems to mainly affect players who have passed their prime and are finishing their careers at minimum wage for 1 year. Therefore I just listed all the times the hometown discount has applied to TML.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Space</b></div><div>Lost me at third best D. I'll give you Chychrun but who's the other? OEL lmao?
Trouba and Spurgeon both signed before covid, a better comparable is Pietrangelo who signed for 8.8m last offseason, but Pietrangelo is much better defensively. I suppose it depends if there's any truth to what Friedman said about wanting to sign closer to home and if he's got a soft spot for the team he grew up cheering for. https://pbs.twimg.com/media/Egtx04SXYAIfyh_.jpg</div></div>
Yes, I have Chychrun as their best d-man, OEL is in my eyes third atm, but I'm not sure if they resign Goligoski for next year. Rielly had one good year 3 years ago so I would rather put him in the same category as Gustafsson, DeAngelo and Gostisbehere who were also briefly thought of as superstars, than consider him to be on par with players who have solid season-to-season records. So yes, I consider OEL to be better than him.
Yes, sure take Pietrangelo who signed 8.8M until the age of 37, you aren't getting as much out of those 2-3 last years. You have signed Dougie until he's 34. Everyone always want to go to Toronto for less since they are Toronto, right? Well, I can only remember that happening with around 5 players: Tavares (not really a discount), Spezza (yummy, his prime years!), Thornton (he's still getting better, teams were probably lining up to get him), Marleau (there must have been a bidding war here for this UFA), Simmonds (The JvR-Bozak-Kadri PP in one player! Wow what a great signing). If you have some other examples of when this has actually happened, please enlighten me.

I like how ARI would give away two great forwards for 2 bottom 6 guys and what would become their third best LHD. But that's somehow not even the worst part of this ACGM. Because Dougie signs for less than both Trouba and Spurgeon who both signed new contracts fairly recently...

Wow, there are so many aspects of this trade I don't understand... Since Pelech > Rielly, I just assumed this trade was mainly designed as a cap dump for the Islanders.

I dont see the islanders using Pelech (their best defender) to dump cap, he's too important. Also Pelech gets 2M more even if it is Toronto making the offer.

Doing a tampa
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>TheThunder</b></div><div>So what surgery is Lee having . Kucherov had a surgery that has a 5month recovery time. The lightning new the recovery time precisely because in the 19/20 off season Point had the surgery and missed the first couple weeks. Of the season. 3 months from surgery to skating 2onths from skating to playing. Gourde had the same surgery in the 18/19 off season 3 months from surgery to skating and 2 months from skating to playing. Both the exact same time line as Kucherov</div></div>
Now that we're discussing it, I would probably rather keep Lee for the season and give that surgery to Eberle instead. So just give him the tampa surgery right before the season starts (hip or something), it seems to fit perfectly to join the playoffs and the method has been tested three times already so it's fool proof! Thanks a lot for the suggestion!

True, Voracek and JvR don't need protection since their contracts anyway make them untouchable in the draft. Just take someone like Aubé-Kubel and scratch him instead...
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Tjm220</b></div><div>I think most people would be surprised if Seattle went for Girgensons. We’d be even more surprised if once they selected him they weren’t even putting him in the lineup.</div></div>
Want a forward who is ready for the NHL from the get go, and there will be injuries to the line-up at some point. If Aubé-Kubel is picked instead of Laughton, then Zemgus gets his chance immediately :)
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>IconicHawk</b></div><div>Your not getting Borgstrom here’s what Chicago does:

Kubalik and Suter are exempt, so let's say Nylander and Strome instead. Then I'll pick Stillman instead. Actually fits better with the F-D ratio among the taxi squad

The problem for the first line last year was that neither eberle or barzal score that much, they are both pass first kind of players. Bellows however can be the goalscorer that is needed in that line, say what you want about him, but he's good at that. I also think he looked good when he was up last year for a bit too, so just give him a shot with the big boys. I also think the 3rd line with JGP and Beau would suit Wahlstrom well. And the second line reunites Lee and Bailey who have been great together historically

Islanders decline Chicago and Columbus trades for sure. Cizikas is super important and also Sorokin wont be traded before getting to show how good he is... They dropped Lehner and picked up Varly to make his transition easier, so they're not going to trade him.

I would prefer to keep Bailey and Mayfield instead of Eberle in the draft, but that's just me. I would also prefer to sign Golyshev for next year when his KHL contract expires (he has said that he's interested) over signing Saad for $5'000'000. Otherwise I like what you've done!
Edit: Oops, I missed that he was traded in the Ladd package... Sorry about that!

NYI signing Hall
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Isles777</b></div><div>I’m not saying Ladd is definitely going on LTIR, but he hasn’t played over kuhnhackl, johnston, dal colle of jomarov. He definitely deserves to play given his experience , but I think there might be something going on behind the scenes that might lead to him going to LTIR. I wouldn’t be surprised at all if one of his many health issues reappeared. It would benefit the isles even if he went on LTIR for one year.</div></div>
I agree completely, but now that he played yesterday there's a lower chance of him going to LTIR for next season :(
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Hawkisles</b></div><div>LTIR concerns aside, this lineup looks deadly. Hall has shown he can carry an offense on his own, imagine how great he’d be with his buddy Eberle and Barzal on the same line as him, especially with this kind of depth down the roster. Only change I’d make is keeping Lee and Bailey on the same line, they have such great chemistry and I’d love to see it reinvigorated.</div></div>
Yes, I agree completely! Their chemistry has always been top notch. However, for some reason I don't see that working with Nelson as the center for that line. In that case I would put them on a line together with JGP. Also, the Killer B line has been on fire this playoff run, so they also have good chemistry. So I think either of those combinations would be great! :)

NYI19
Well Islanders have Boychuk on a contract that we're not losing. Pulock is better than Mayfield and Dobson as well as Wilde is coming up, so the islanders have a surplus of RHD. As I see more trouble in trading away any of the other 4, I think Mayfield may be a good trading chip. I don't see an issue in picking up Reeves as his contract expires next season and NYI is having no cap trouble this season. This is one of the benefits for VGK for this trade as well. Also, since Clutterbuck is injured for I don't know how long, Reeves is a gritty player that can fill that void.
I have no problem trading for Gusev though. He had better point production than Dadonov before he came to the NHL (playing on the same line). And this year he got 13 points more than any other player in the KHL. Sure the rink is a different size and there's a slightly different play style in the NHL, but I would rather compare him to Panarin or Dadonov than Kovar.
Side note: I think also Shipachyov would have been good in the NHL had he gotten a chance, but VGK messed up big time there as I understood the situation.
