    Ottawa matches.

So you think OTT values Tkachuk that much higher than Chabot?

It’s a curious thought exercise. If they do match that contract, there are fewer teams who would want Tkachuk at $9.5M AAV for trade….he’s a much better winger than a center…and that’s a lot more than Aho got.

Have to think at least one or two teams out there are looking at OTT and Tkachuk and considering a trade offer that exceeds the offer sheet compensation by a good margin.

Tkachuk is going to be the captain in Ottawa. 9.5 id match but the 5 year term would hurt and send him to UFA at a young age

Yep, Tkachuk is a franchises centerpiece. And Brady is probably the better of the 2. He’s big, physical, very hard worker, a player maker, goal scorer. He’s a superstar. A franchise Center piece.

Plays a very good 200 game, good two-way player too.

I would all but guarantee that Brady does the exact same contract as Matthew ($7M x 3 years)….which will walk him to UFA very quickly and give him full control of his AAV and which team he plays for.

I doubt they both want to leave their teams. I think both will get longterm contracts and the captaincy

I don’t think either wants to leave their team. And both are captain material. But that Matthew contract was very smart for him to have a $9M qualifying offer to ensure that CGY is forced to offer him a large long term contract, or else he takes his chosen AAV and picks what team he plays for elsewhere.

Calgary should give him 9.5 over 8 years, the captaincy and then call it a day. You don’t let players like that leave

$9.5M for a 50pt player yeesh. Id hope Ottawa matches cuz no way I’d want that contract and have to give up all that compensation. Ottawa fans wont like hearing this but Brady is overrated.

Couldn’t have said it better myself. If his last name was Thomas he wouldn’t get anything over 5M AAV.

Brady has been #2 in hits 2 seasons in a row and was 2nd in shots this season, last year he was ~7th in shots. He will probaby be a 35+ goal scorer once his teammates develop

Can’t say I expected to see any “Brady is overrated” comments in this thread….

300+ SOG is definitely going to be 30+ goals per season as he and linemates develop. Especially with how much time he spends in front of the net.

That said, this post follows up on my comment for another post about OTT matching a massive offer sheet. Where is their limit? And why wouldn’t they take a way bigger package (ie. Konecny + Dube + 1st + more)? Melnyk is a d1ckhead, and I think they would have a really difficult time allowing Dorion to value Tkachuk that much more than Chabot.

Edit: especially with Stuetzle and others coming up for new contracts in the future….

He gets a lot of shots cuz he slams pucks into the goalies pads all the time, thats why his xG is always top of the league. Jfresh has talked about this before and how overrated he is because of all the pad stuffs he gets. Maybe he has one 35 goal season eventually, but he cant shoot the puck like other guys in the league who consistently put up 30-40 goals. And paying money for a guy who hits that much is risky because although hits are good and its great having a guy on your team like that there is significantly more risk of injury.

Cool, but nobody’s expecting him to score 70 goals. It’s fairly realistic to expect him to get 35+ consistently when his teammates develop to their maximum potential. He’s been the best player on the team for a few years, with no support. As Norris, Batherson, Stutzle, and the 10th overall pick this year earn more minutes and continue to improve offensively he’ll have some support and going to the dirty areas is a great way to score goals. Nobody’s saying he’s gonna win a Rocket, but he should definitely score more than 20 goals and 50 points, that’s really good for a young guy who has had to be the best player on the team (he’s 21 with 2 seasons as Ottawa’s top scorer already). And this only accounts for his inflated expected goals, with nobody sane actually thinking he’ll beat guys like Matthews in a scoring race, and completely ignores his physicality, leadership, ability to draw penalties, etc. He’s only overrated if you expect him to be a 60+ goal guy lmao

Lol get the exaggerations out of here of course hes not getting 60+ goals. i think you are underestimating how difficult it is to consistently score 35+ goals in the nhl. Over the past 3 seasons only 5 players have been on pace to score 35+ goals in each season (Ovechkin, Draisaitl, Stamkos, Matthews and McDavid) and only 16 players have been on that pace for 2 of the 3 seasons. Like Ive said before Brady doesn't have the shot to consistently beat nhl goalies. Yeah he might snipe a few, but the majority are just banging in rebounds which isn’t a consistent way of scoring goals. I do think Brady is a better player then Monahan, but I think he is a good comparable as both started their careers on poor teams. In Monahans first 3 seasons his goal pace was 24, 31 and 27, whereas Bradys pace was 25, 24, and 25. Yeah he might put up 35 goals here and there over his career but to say he is going to do it consistently is blasphemy. I do think Brady is a good player, but at this point in time and with a flat cap it is extremely difficult to justify paying him $9.5m long term. Max I would give him right now would be the same as his brother but even then Id be hesitant because matthew was coming off a 34 goal, 77 point season and Brady is nowhere near that.
