Given that Nick Foligno fetched a 1st round pick at the deadline, I think its safe to say that if Rielly is traded in the summer he'll get a much greater return. Sandin can replace his production on the powerplay, although not his physicality or frame, but is a smooth skater with great offensive upside. Haven't mentioned Liljegren whose an elite skater who has developed a good two way game. If you've watched Marlies games you can see he's really grown in his two way play. I don't want it to be a situation where Rielly walks for nothing like Gardiner, JVR, and Barrie where you can get something substantial in return, even if its picks.
Hyman: Brings physicality, heart, defensive play, and is great on the top two lines. Resigning him is a no brainer.
Halak: Great veteran goalie with good numbers and a decent cap hit. Can start if need be or if Campbell struggles, although I think Campbell is capable of putting up at least a .910 save percentage and 2.60 GAA over a full season.
Landeskog: Great leader who should fill the void on Rielly loss, playoff experience, points producer, physical and will do well with Matthews and Marner.
Coleman: Great two way player capable of playing on the second line, physical, hard to knock off the puck, and can play all three forward positions and is great on special teams.
Miller: A great athlete and physical specimen at 6-3, 205 pounds, he displays excellent shutdown acumen from the back end. Moves well for a big man and can join the rush from time to time. Has offensive upside, too. Will be a great partner to play with Liljegren.
Galchenyuk: Played really well at times, I think his contract will be really cheap and is serviceable on the third line. Also capable at playing centre, so Coleman and Gal can be used there
Kerfoot taken in expansion draft. Make or break year for Dermott. He's supposed to be good analytically but his plus/minus and offensive numbers have been going down each year. We'll see
There’s only one offensive minded defenceman in that lineup, and he’s a rookie. On top of that, he’s not going to play with another rookie next season.

Fair enough but it still doesn't make sense to make a move for a non-factor on the defensive side of the ice.

A non-factor? In the defensive game yes, but he’s one of the top offensive defencemen out there. I would really like to add him but I think Toronto gives an extension.
He’s the type of player I’d target to win all those one-goal games by enhancing the power play.

Remove Miller from this deal and add a 3rd/4th and make the 1st a 2022 and I’m all for it.
