Ah the Leafs hater is back.

Carolina may be giving up the more valuable player, and future better player in the deal, but this is by no means "awful" for them. As a matter of fact, it's worse for Toronto. They're giving up 2 top 4 defenceman in return for a top 9 forward where they're already deep at.

Carolina on the other hand, moves from a position of depth, and gains an upgrade at least on theiir entire second pair.

The value here is no doubt in Carolina's favour. Both teams would probably decline, but people like you that just jump to the conclusion that because 1 team is giving up a big name younger player, that they're massively losing the deal. But when you take a step back and use some common logic, it's the exact opposite in reality.

Way off. How many years of Necas for 1 year of Rielly and an average d man? Term matters. Easy in Leafs favor. Not only are Canes giving up best asset they are getting screwed in term life.

So sign him to an extension. Geez people seem to forget that teams have a full year to talk to their pending UFA's.

Oh, and that "average d man" shuts down McDavid... frequently. If that's only average then I wonder what your definition of above average is 🤔

You mean like they did with Faulk no wait, Hamilton then…oops. They are only guaranteed 1 year. 5 years of Necas is more valuable than 1 of Rielly and 2 of Holl. Simple fact. It’s piss poor asset mangement.

Are you dumb? They drafted Faulk and signed him to an extension before he left, he just wanted too much for them. They traded for Hamilton with 3 years left and have been trying to sign him to an extension for almost a year. They've tried.

If they trade for Rielly, that means they're obviously interested in him beyond 1 season and wanna get a jump on talks before he has the chance to hit the market. They reportedly offered Hamilton a $6M AAV, so if they lose Hamilton they can offer something like that to Rielly who likely comes in around $6.5M AAV.

Necas is still a MAYBE to work out. Sure he's looked great but until he find some consistency, he's still a young player that's developing. Rielly and Holl are already 2 well established top 4 defenceman. You know what you're getting. & for a team competing for a cup that can't seem to get by Tampa, knowing what you have is a hell of a lot better than a big maybe. Not to mention that Toronto would now have to fill 2 holes on top have adding to something they already have plenty of. & Carolina fixes 2 spots without losing something from a position where they're strong at.

2 top 4 defenceman >> 1 top 9 young forward. & if you try to argue that then you just are dumb.

Faulk was in the final year of his contract. He was traded because they were going to lose him. Same thing they did with Skinner. Blues extended him. They tried with Hamilton, and failed, despite for the first time he was supposedly happy and fit in in the locker room. UFAs don’t stick around in Raleigh as a rule. 🤷🏻‍♂️ Trading long term assets for short ones works in major markets and destination cities. O6, major markets, destinations cities, tax havens can operate that way as they expect players want to re-sign there. Places like Raleigh, Columbus, Winnipeg, Buffalo, Arizona, etc simply can’t. It’s bad business.

Maybe if Carolina actually makes fair offers to players, they'd stick around. How can you justify offering Hamilton a max of $6M AAV and call it a good offer? Sounds more like an ownership problem than a player one.
