Major Shakeup

Créé par: CuyahogaKid
Équipe: 2021-22 Sabres de Buffalo
Date de création initiale: 12 mai 2021
Publié: 23 mai 2021
Mode - plafond salarial: Basique
Description
- Olafsson is moved out of the top six and used as a power play specialist ....BUT this is only if Jeff Skinner performs decent enough to warrant a top 6 spot again.

1-1- Matthew Berniers C
1-8 Kent Johnson LW/C

Captain- Rasmus Ristolainen - hands down choice. Many shortfalls in his game but he is still the hardest working player on the team. He deserves it. Risto could still be moved at 2022 deadline though. His value will not be any different between now and then, so we may as well wait and see.

Alternate CAPTAINS

A- Jake McCabe
A- Alec Martinez
A- Matthew Tkachuk

Why are the Sabres making a trade with Seattle in order to benefit Calgary? Might as well keep what Calgary dealt over, protect Bjork, and let them take Miller anyway.

Second round pick? I could do that, and I’d be interested in reacquiring. I’m not sure if Colorodo is gonna protect him though but I’d be interested either way.

It’s a sweetener for the Flames deal and it also makes it a little easier for them to acquire Eichel, that’s the rationale anyways by getting rid of Lucic’s contract. I’m not sure how flames fans feel about Lucic, and if they want to move his contract? They may feel the need for grit and muscle If they move Tkachuck, but it gives them breathing rooms.

But to answer your question it’s mainly because of Lucic’s involvement in the deal and it’s a sweetener to Calgary if they want an extra protection slot and more cap flexibility....and unfortunately Lucic has a no trade and buffalo is certainly on it. He will have to waive and agree to be immediately sent to Seattle and Seattle will have to agree to take him.

If Seattle hires Gerard Gallant, then they very likely Could be interested in Colin Miller with the Vegas ties. So Miller is included as a sweetener to Seattle. I actually didn’t mean to retain on Miller, I was trying some things around....it was supposed to be Miller’s full 3.875 hit, and the purpose was to clear some cap space to make moves elsewhere.

Is he really though? Never had a healthy season, scored more than 13 goals in a season once (16), career-high of 32 points in a season, never had 50% or better at faceoffs, pretty much stuck in the bottom 6 in COL (though that may be due more to the quality of their top 6) -- but he really hasn't shown that he's a top 6 forward or has top 6 potential yet in his career. And his cap hit doesn't boost his value (e.g. Jarnkrok) -- maybe in an expanded role he can prove he has more to give (e.g. Roslovic), but I don't think that hope bumps his trade value at all. He could probably get slightly better than a 3rd, but I don't see any team offering a 2nd. Maybe a 3rd + B-/C+ prospect? What is he worth in a trade in your eyes?

Initially I may have underestimated Calgary as a partner and what they can offer for Eichel. I think most Sabre fans want LA, but at the same time, LA doesn’t need him, they’d be better off developing Byfield and Turcotte, and addressing other areas and to me, Sam Reinhart makes ten times more sense to the Kings. Reinhart is a scorer for the top line they could use and he’s cheaper and they won’t sell the farm to get him.

For Calgary, if Tkachuck is a centerpiece, I think that eases the sting of losing Eichel but also gives Calgary a major shakeup to their core as well as a true game breaker and for Buffalo it gives them the lineup grit they lack. Zary is a good middle six center prospect and I think they can move up from 13 if they get creative. Part of the Eichel trade

Seattle agrees to select Anders Bjork in the expansion draft and acquires Colin Miller and Milan Lucic via trade (2.5m) and also agrees to not select a fourth defenseman from Calgary and acquires a third round pick.

I’d do a late second tops. Compher is still a good two way player, he can slide up and down a lineup, kills penalties, plays all three forward spots. Cap hit is a little high for a bottom six but I still like the player, and the Sabres need more guys like this in their lineup. He’s also another guy who knows Granato from his junior days so if he’s the coach, it’s a bonus. I think Compher would be a great fit

hes still a good player not the avs. A 3rd wont replace what he brings to the team. Pure futures for avs player when they are going for the cup only hurts them

Honestly if the Sabres can get Tkachuk, Zary, the 2021 1st, and Lucic with some retention for Eichel I’d just keep Lucic. At $3 million against the cap he could be a useful fourth line winger who helps change the culture here. Tkachuk can’t be expected to do it alone, but with both and maybe making a deal with the Devils for Miles Wood, the Sabres aren’t a team that gets pushed around anymore.

Sabres fans may hate him, but the team used to acquire players that got under our skin and then came here to protect our stars. “Spinner” Spencer, Dave Schultz, more recently Steve Ott. If you can convince him to waive a no trade clause to come here, making this team tougher to play against might be a way to keep the fans interested.

Moving from 12th overall (the actual selection) to 8th overall is a benefit to Buffalo, not Los Angeles. Therefore, the return from LA should be Reinhart MINUS that benefit, not plus. To put it another way, you can't possibly be contending that Reinhart is worth all that PLUS the difference between 12th and 8th overall, can you?

Here’s the thing about the Avs from my outside perspective. They seem to have a pulse on the now and the future. Not saying compher would go for that, but could see him being dealt if they have a replacement internally ready to go for sheltered minutes with top 6 potential (like Newhook). I could see compher being a futures trade while not damaging the now. Really just a solidly run org for going on years now.

I was kind of at a loss on Reinhart’s value. He’s coming off a his best goal scoring year yet and he can play center to add positional versatility. I think he makes way more sense to LA than Eichel. Having said that, I used Taylor Halls trade to AZ, Ryan O’Reilly’s trade to Buffalo and Matt Duchenes trade to Ottawa from Colorado as templates as all these guys were in the last year of RFA status when they were moved to those teams. All of them were moved for 2-3 prospects and a first.

In this scenario yes I’m moving up a few spots in the draft back into the top ten., and I’m picking up pick 40 from LA as well as Vilardi, a former number 11 pick and Akil Thomas an NHL ready prospect.

It depends on how you view Vilardi and I value him as a future top six forward and the centerpiece of the deal here. He’s only 21 and he’s only gonna get better and in Buffalo he will be a top six forward here. I view Vilardi as a big piece and Akil Thomas I also value highly. I think he gets lost in the shuffle in LA’s deep prospect pool especially at center but I think he will be NHL ready next year and is an outstanding penalty killer and projects as a solid middle six forward. I see him as a future third line anchor.

It depends on how you value the prospects and I think Vilardi is more than enough for a centerpiece, and Reinhart gets LA closer to win now mode. And long term, Vilardi could be the most expendable one with Byfield and Turcotte there.

If anything, the only thing I think that could be added would be a conditional first rounder if Reinhart signed a long term extension but I felt it may have been a little too much. Doabale but maybe too much?

Either way I think it makes sense for both sides

I owe Calgary fans an aplology. After looking at it more and thinking about it, I didn’t think Calgary had the pieces but they certainly do, and if anything, they may be the best partner for Buffalo. They may hate this trade but I was wrong, there definelty is something here to benefit both sides with some tweaking.

O'Reilly was traded in the second year of a seven-year contract for a late first, a mid-second and a B prospect (plus two guys known to be fillers). Duchene was traded at the deadline of the year his contract was expiring and he was to become an unrestricted free agent, for a mid-first and two B prospects (neither of whom has shown NHL-caliber talent yet). In contrast, Vilardi is an A prospect who was taken 11th overall, and the draft pick is 8th overall. As you yourself point out, Vilardi is expected to be a top-6 forward under team control for roughly 8 years, while Reinhart can force free agency after two seasons. The difference in contract status is another factor in Buffalo's favor in addition to the move from 12th to 8th. So right there, Reinhart and the Calgary pick for Vilardi and our pick is probably the maximum you're entitled to. If you want to argue that you're entitled to a decent prospect like Jaret Anderson-Dolan or Kale Clague, fine, I can understand that. But I don't like the idea of trading 7 or 8 years of Vilardi for the risk of getting only 2 years of Reinhart to begin with, so the more you ask for, the less you're likely to get any trade at all.
