Dumba and EIchel Overhaul

Description
Just some idle thoughts prompted by the fact that Minnesota would benefit from having to protect only three defensemen in the Seattle expansion draft and what seemed to me to be a good Flyers team construction I saw today.

The Dumba trade is made before the expansion draft, needless to say, and the Eichel trade after.

The Eichel trade was suggested by a Buffalo adherent, but the 2023 pick was a first.

I'll bet that Oleksiak re-ups with Dallas, but he would be good for the Flyers here.

I'm going to be interested to hear from Minnesota, Buffalo and particularly Philly fans about this framework.

That would be a pretty poor return for BUF -- and I don't think it costs that much to move up 10 spots in a draft like this. It's a crapshoot this year, so I can't see teams trading big-name assets to move up like that.

Who asked you -- you're the accepted authority on the Preds, not any of the three teams here!

Seriously, I think that there's a very significant benefit to Minnesota being able to go 7-3-1 instead of 8-1. For one thing, they hold on to Jordan Greenway and Ryan Hartman. And the fact that this year's draft is a "blind-darts" game doesn't change the fact that there is an advantage to moving up or disadvantage to moving back, hence the incentive to Philly should be strong.

I had this idea before anyone else, so of course I think it's a grand one. But I could be wrong.

I agree that MIN should probably trade Dumba prior to the expansion draft-- I just think it'll be a different deal.

And I would say that if I had to choose my top 3 teams in the NHL, they would be NSH, PHI, and WSH/TBL -- OK, fine, I gave four lol

Is this serious? You think wild are going to trade dumba, & a 1st round pick pick to move up for the 13th pick in this year's draft?

Dumba's value alone is worth a 1st round pick, & top c prospect.

Dumba's value as a player, & person is worth more than this bad bad proposal

    Wild absolutely hang up..

But dumba isn't really going anywhere, so it doesn't matter

    Could be. Could well be.

But I've seen some comments from actual knowledgeable Wild fans who have raised the possibility of going so far as to expose him in the expansion draft, so I don't know.

Maybe the 27th overall selection is a better choice, or maybe Philadelphia adds a good prospect like Wade Addison.

You dont think they expose Soucy or Greenway?

I don't think that they WANT to expose Greenway, so this is an effort to avoid that.

Soucy is a defenseman, so he's out whether the Wild expose Dumba or not (Suter, Brodin, Spurgeon).

People need to quit over valuing Dumba. He is a middle pairing D man and the only thing that makes him more valuable is that he is a RHD. Saying that, this trade doesn't make sense for a 10 spot jump in a massively questionable draft.

These seem like pretty awful deals tbh.

In an unusual draft, moving up 10 spots can be done much cheaper than a top 4 defenceman for Minnesota. The argument of "they'll lose him to Seattle" in irrelevant because they'd get many better offers than this that would help their team.

As for the Eichel offer, yikes that's seems like a terrible return for Buffalo. You're obviously not a Buffalo fan, but it makes no sense for Buffalo to take a player like Voracek with that type of horrendous contract. Frost is devalued right now because Philadelphia has said right now he doesn't have what it takes to make the NHL, no sure why Buffalo would take that when they can get better offers. & the rest of the return isn't enough to make up for the loss of value in the 2 main pieces. Eichel to Philadelphia wouldn't have much traction cause the Flyers don't have the pieces the Sabres are looking for and there's at least of handful of teams that fit way better for a deal.

Voracek doesn’t do anything for Buffalo. He’s old and overpaid, and they’re looking for players who can help them, not a better Okposo who costs more. Konecny makes a lot more sense.

If you're not going to take at least $6 million in cap back, you're reducing your target audience from about 10 teams to about 4.

It's kind of Is. Wild love him as a player, a person

    He's a top 4 d

Wild aren't doing this deal. This is really bad

Wild either already have a handshake deal with Seattle, or will do everything to protect dumba, & Talbot

Don't really care what your explanation is as they could trade him for fair value as I'm sure someone would be willing to do so as RHD are not easy to find.
