You can take that approach, but I think it would be better to win cups now than worry about that depth in the future. Kubalik is an RFA, so you could conceivably trade his rights for assets.

I understand your position. With Nino out after 21-22, Necas needing a new deal, and then Aho, Turbo, and Svech all needing a new deal during his ELC, having a top 6 potential scorer on an ELC will be huge for us to maintain a long cup window.

Yeah Winnipeg isn't going to take Duncan Keith, even for that much of a bargain. They simply can't afford him, nor will they really need him.

It's perfect to think like that, but in my opinion a GM with a focus on winning now makes this trade. Jarvis is a great prospect, but he is still a prospect and there's a lot of unknowns at play. Getting a 25-30 goal scorer for him that is on a reasonable contract to help you win now, and can be sold off for assets or resigned later, it's not something many contending teams have the privilege of doing. Money might be hard to work out later, but I think a competent GM will figure that out when the time comes.

Just my opinion though.
