I’ve been picking apart other people’s comments in my head and figuring out what to say.

Here’s my final thoughts
A list like this one
1 McDavid
2-a Matthews
2-b Mackinnon
2-c Crosby
3-a Panarin
3-b Stone
4-a Barkov
4-b Draisaitl
4-c Marner
4-d Pastrnak/Kucherov
Is a great way to look at it. (credit to @A_K) Personally, there are some changes I would make based on my own opinion but it is still a very good way to look at it.

Secondly, I think a top 10 is very hard to judge.
Obviously McDavid is 1, there’s no debate.
But from here, there’s levels. There is no clear 2,3,4,5,etc..
There’s also so many great players that a few different top 10’s could be made and they would make sense.
I can name more than 10 players who deserve to have their names mentioned in a top 10.
McDavid
Draisaitl
Mackinnon
Rantanen
Makar
Matthews
Marner
Crosby
Barkov
Huberdeau
Marchand
Pastrnak
Stone
Panarin
Kane
Hedman
Josi
We’ll see about Kucherov when he comes back
And more

That’s quite a few more than 10.
Does that make sense?

Marchand is easily a top 5 player in the League. You could argue hes top 3 ....better than Matthews and Marner... imo is laughable that he got skipped.

One of these things is not like the other, one of these things, doesn’t belong.

Anddddd it’s Mitch marner. I think you’d have a tough time making an argument for him as top 25.

One thing worth noting, and yes I’m a bruins fan, buuuut:
Over the past three seasons marchand is 5th in the league in points, behind McDavid, draisaitl, Kane, and 4 points behind mackinnon.
Third in the league in plus minus.
Elite defensively.
First in short handed points.
Fourth in points per 60 (.07 behind connor McDavid FFS).
Top ten in both goals and assist per 60.

I get that he’s hated, but there just isn’t even an argument for marchand not being a top ten player.

I actually think the whole "The North is lackluster!" argument is laughable. Toronto, Edmonton and Winnipeg are playoff teams in any division. Montreal likely spends the season challenging for a wildcard most of the year in their actual division as well. To discount the division when you can easily point to the West (LA, ANA, SJ, ARI, STL), the East (Guaranteed wins in Buffalo and NJ), and the Central (Detroit, Columbus and Chicago) as being equally bad is a weird way to look at things. Not to mention the f*cking travel that these teams have had to put up with.

The North has the highest expected g/60... Long story short the North high activity low defense .... 0 of those teams were playoff teams last year besides the Habs? Put NJD in the North and i bet you t hey contend for a p layoff spot impossible to prove but to say"Toronto, Edmonton and Winnipeg are playoff teams in any division" no they arent lol

Washington
NYI
Pittsburgh
Boston

they dont make it in past these teams....

Tampa
FLorida
Carolina

both east sides looks like 1 spot could be open.... East division is more low event high defense... playoffs type hockey

BUT to each their own
