I know this is an unrealistic take, and odds are CBJ will let Torts go and keep Laine over Torts, but can I at least dream?

I would never answer for Columbus, but if there's a theme I've picked up in their fans' responses to Laine inquiries, it's that they'd like to get back a young top-six center, and picks. This has picks, so I'd guess it's about half way there.

Laine is a joke. Demands a trade then doesn't like the team he was traded to. He should be signed long term then exiled to buffalo.

That’s what happens when you ask for a trade with 0 trade protection or any control over where you go. I felt bad for him in the first place, but he wanted to leave. He chose to leave. He can deal with that situation now. Apparently the Jets locker room is so much better now too without him.

I wouldn’t even give up Niku, Ves and a 1st for Laine at this point. Everything I thought was bad about him, he’s been worse at in Columbus. He can score, and I wouldn’t complain about gaining 35 goals at 2LW, but I think there are too many negatives that come with him. Would rather see the Jets trade for a top 6 winger that would cost less like lebanc.

I died at that comment. As much as I loved patty for the good things he did. It’s too late to salvage the relationship. Even if they chose to make this deal, think there would be too many issues in the locker room as it has been said that finally the locker room is full of adults after laine left.

Jets were a stable team with good vets and were winning and reaching the playoffs. I can't imagine what he would do on a bottom 10 Team or a rebuilding team.

Also dont forget PLD is on a short contract he will be due like 8 million and the defense is still underpaid on Average.

Don’t think he’s played like an 8 million dollar guy. I’m assuming he’ll get the exact same contract as Kyle Connor.

They need to upgrade on D though.

I joke that they should trade him there to punish him along with Erik Karlsson.

PLD is on a 55 point per season Pace a 23 Year old center who is his size probably gets 7.5 at least if he gets 60 points 27 goals next year. PLD also took a bridge deal whereas Connor took a team friendly deal centers also get paid more.

He got benched in CBJ for reportedly "mouthing off" to an assistant coach. You have to say something pretty bad (or make it a behavioural pattern) to get benched like that in a game. I imagine that he did probably did the same in Winnipeg. I can definitely believe the account of an improved Jets locker room.

Honestly I’d love to see laine banished to Buffalo.

Also, you’re likely right that PLD gets around there. Only argument against is that Connor had 4 30+ goal seasons en route to that contract. PLD brings a lot of the defensive game, that definitely makes up for the difference in scoring. But we both know that usually doesn’t get you paid the big bucks. I wouldn’t be surprised to see PLD get the same deal as Connor, maybe even 7 years at 7.75m per year.

Yeah you definitely don’t just start mouthing off to coaches out of no where. Likely did the same in Winnipeg. I can believe the improved locker room as well.

...um. No? Since when is Niku worth giving up on a guy who we can still turn back into a badass? I mean, unless you're absolutely unshakably convinced that Laine is going to force his way out the same way the guy we traded to get him did, that's insane.

I think he signs one year bridge and decides if he likes the direction of the franchise. Then with one year left as an RFA he either signs a long term extension or signals that he wants out by asking for another 1yr deal.
