Everyone needs to remember that the Mac situation is extremely unique - nobody of his skill-set and accomplishment has that kind of contract at his age. It was a perfect storm that has worked out in the Avs favor. Had he signed a bridge for, say, 3 years and still done the same things on the ice, he's easily making $10M right now, if not more and the Avs don't have nearly the same roster as they do. So, adding a guy like Eichel, which would be awesome to have, is completely impractical in a salary cap world but even more pronounced with a flat-cap. Right now, the name of the game is managing the cap with the core players (Mac, Landy, Mikko, Makar) they have and filling in around them, not adding someone like Eichel.
