No, he'd still be an RFA I believe. He'll be 26 when that deal expires with only three years of NHL experience. 2x5mil is a fair bridge deal
Yes, but he'd be arbitration eligible. In which case he could drive the price up, if he chose to do so. Signing him long-term at or near that price point now gives us a few extra valuable years at a lower cap hit when things would still be extremely tight with more large contracts on the roster being added onto it.
Especially when we'd have to be working around Parise, Suter, Spurgeon, Brodin, Zuccarello's and more contracts.
Rossi would also most likely be on the final year of his elc for Kaprizov's first year of his new contract after that 2 year extension you gave him ends. So we'd be looking to lock him up on his first contract. And if he hits, then Rossi probably is looking at a contract in the same realm as Barzal.
The reality is, an additional 1-2 years of Kaprizov at the lower cap hit could mean having a crucial extra $2-3M to go towards paying Rossi.
Otherwise one of Fiala or Kaprizov would have to be dealt in order to be able to afford our future franchise center.
Unless, as I suggested in your other thread, Zuccarello was dealt to NSH in the Johansen trade.
