He’s still much better than malkin at this stage of his career. So A, he’s not getting traded for malkin And B, I highly doubt he’s leaving Florida. He won’t get the money elsewhere and Florida is starting to get competitive.

You have to take into account the value GM`s place in leadership and playoff experience. Lets say that Barkov and Malkin are pretty similar in value at the current moment. Florida may make the move because Malkin would be able to guide the young team and provide invaluable playoff experience as Florida finally emerges as a playoff team. I think it is also more likely that Malkin is extended in Florida than it is Barkov is extended in Florida.

Malkin is much better than he is playing right now and will still be among the elite for a few more years.

The difference between each player is miles different. And it has nothing do with skill. One is 10 years younger and is hitting his prime. One is coming up to the part of his career where he is still valuable but never be what he was. You dont offer a 35 year old a 8 year 10 mil contact. The trade is beyond insane on a one for one.
