This trade puts them too close to the cap. There isn’t even enough wiggle room for Robertson to return.
Unless Kerfoot is involved the numbers just don’t work for the Leafs.

If we weren't so dang cap strapped I'd be willing to take a flyer on a guy like Bennet. He's still young enough to be worth another shot. But with our cap space being so precious I am not interested.

Toronto get's a guy who has been a mediocre 3rd liner at best who isnt very good defensivly for 2 guys that would be NHL regulars on the leafs were it not for cap constraints. Dermott is pretty easily a number 4 and Engvall is a solid 3rd line defensive guy in a pinch.
Not saying the Flames have reason to do it, but the leafs 100% have no reason to do it.

You do realize Bennett plays on the PK right? He is pretty decent defensively. I get that you genuinely don't like him but try to understand that he is not nearly as bad a player you make him out to be

he's not decent defensively and simply playing the PK doesnt mean he's good at it. And i actually do like Bennett, I watched him a lot when he was on the Fronts, he just isnt very good and you should try to understand that
