I dont like either trades from Pens POV.

MP >>>> Zads
McCann >>>> Shaw

Ceci > DeKeyser

What is this???

MP is better offensively Zadorov is better defensively. Fits the role better. Gives Pens element of physicality.

Dekeyser > Ceci

Shaw is a hell of a player. McCann is a good player but he isn`t elite in any area, just good all around. Shaw is more of a gamebreaker. Pesty. Physical. IMO replaces a lot of what Hornqvist brought.

I admit the Pens may be able to do better than Dekeyser. I hope they can and do. BUT the Detroit AGM has been at Pens games and if there is a trade I wouldn`t hate it. Dekeyser is a good player and has played on a really bad Red Wings team the past few years. I think he would fit in to what the Pens are trying to do.

Dude I’m sorry but I’m not even gonna argue this. MP is better at both ends of the ice than Zaderov. All zaderov can do is hit. Shaw is overpaid doesn’t have the upside that McCann does. Not even close. He’s one hit away from a career ending injury.

Ceci was fine last game. Both aren’t great, but I’d WAYYY rather have ceci for one year at 1.5 then DeKeyser for 2 years at 2.5. Woof

McCann is what he is. Nothing special. The only thing that sticks out about him is maybe his shot but he doesn`t use it enough and the Pens aren`t giving him an opportunity to use it with Malkin or Sid or on the PP. Shaw brings more to the table IMO. Shaw contributes more without the puck. He is a pest. He is a physical guy. He goes to the net. A Tanev-Janko-Shaw line is scary. You can also play him on the top PP in front of the net and he would probably be a good fit with Sid if Kapanen doesn`t fit there.

If we are talking upside we should talk about Zadorov. 25 YO he could be another one of those big defenceman that are late bloomers. It isn`t easy to find 6 6 dmen that can skate and score as well. MP is a good player but he is not a good fit for the role the Pens want him to play. He isn`t capable of being the shutdown type of dman that they want him to be. He isn`t big or strong enough to be a significant physical force and he isn`t quick or skilled enough to be a significant point producer. He is a solid 2-way guy and will not develop offensively or defensively enough to be considered elite. If Zadorov is a fit in Pitt, he has the potential to be an elite shutdown D with his size.

Dekeyser is better than Ceci. Ceci is not as bad as Leafs fans think but he isn`t Dekeyser. They are similar players but Dekeyser is the better skater and is steadier.

Dekeyser Marino
Matheson-Zadorov

This team is better from these trades. The team as it is currently made up has some good puzzle pieces but they can`t get it to fit. These trades allow them to play more to what Sullivan wants.

I like Dekeyser but he won't bring in 2 2nds




I'd take Dekeyser over Cici but they are close. From Pittsburgh point of view it doesn't make a lot of sense Cici is younger and his cap hit is 1/4 of Dekeyser's. Plus you don't have to give away 2 2nd round picks.

For Dekeyser to be better than anyone he first has to stay off of IR. The guy is on it every year for significant time. You trade for him he'll be on IR like 10 days later.

As for Shaw, he's had 2 years in his whole career better than McCann and he's 29 with 2 years left on that contract with a larger cap hit.
Plus the guy was hurt all last season. This just doesn't seem like a wise move. I'd rather keep the younger player who doesn't have a history of injury issues who I have control over and is cheaper.

Pens decline both dekeyser as a replacement for MP? Yikes. If he only had 1 year at 2.5 and was traded for like a 7th round pick to be an extra to cover injuries then I might be ok with it, but definitely not at that price
