Description
cut Chevy some slack he has the toughest gm job in the NHL

Laine publicly stated he wanted out for the past year already, Chevy didn't flinch and waited for the best return possible and when the opportunity came he pounced, wouldve gotten a few picks, prospects and players any other time

close 1 for 1 deal is by far the best scenario

a 22 year old #1 center who really elevated his game past playoffs is a pretty damn nice return
one thing people overlook with PLD is how Columbus was set up, they didnt has any secondary scoring.. thats the reason they stated when they traded for Domi, so every time the opposing teams best top/shutdown line were focused on his line, maybe I'm just overthinking it don't know...... time will tell

tbh this kinda reminds me bout the Trouba situation, everybody was saying the jets utterly lost the trade right from the get go (worked out nicely for us since then)

its completely different tho.... just saying wait a year or 2 before u judge

good luck to Laine, got us the overtime win last game u were in a jets uniform, didn't let your trade request effect ur'e on ice play one bit.. didn't hold out, so respect... Personally think ull thrive in the Eastern Conference, Columbus got a really special player, guaranteed the Central division is pretty happy (especially Dallas) pure snipers r pretty frustrating to play against but now guess the Metropolitan has those issues

overall honestly think we got better, not for this season but in the long run. Center is the most important position in hockey and was our weakest position a year ago but now its our strongest.. better built for the playoffs as well

both teams win, they both had disgruntled star players who wanted out and managed to get another star player back

Welcome the Winnipeg Pierre-Luc Dubois

the city with one of the craziest fan bases in the entire NHL

Sure Dubois may not be as good as Laine, but Jets get one more of control and undoubtedly more cap relief. Plus getting a centre...who can play wing too if needed....good deal for the Jets.
You mentioned the Trouba trade. Trouba was going to be a Jet for just one more year, and then be UFA, so the Jets did well on the trade. The NYR got all giddy and paid 8m long term contract...and the time the 5th highest paid Dman, doesn't see like a good cap deal now.

Chevy can fu*k off, this trade sucks and there's MANY players without trade protection that get dealt all the time but he's never in on them, so many excuses made for this guy.

if a player doesn't want to play here don't trade for them, they just become a distraction that effects on ice play.... to be completely blunt very few do

Yeah and we just traded for a guy who quit on his coach and teammates so what's your point?

ya the Trouba trade was interesting, he had one more year to UFA but was coming off a 50 point year as a 2 way defensemen at the age of 24.. played like a legit #1 def that year

and what the jets got was Pionk was wasn't even considered a top 4 d at the time (he broke out after he came here) and #20th pick in the 2019 draft that was considered weak

decent return for a 1 year rental but far from the value that Trouba commanded that time

yeah, not a good impression at all.. remember a certain player? in 2018-19? after his monstrous November... hes grown up alot since then tho
just saying Laine wanted to leave, if he refuses to sign u try to get maximum value back.. and before the PLD saga we would've only gotten maybe a 1st round pick or 2, grade a prospect and ready ready player

what I'm trying to say is he was gone either way... at least we got quality back and not quantity. PLD already helped the team out there

Idk, think that if the Jets had wanted to keep Laine they could've.

Maybe.. his first 2 years were good here but kinda fell apart on his 3rd year after November when he just started playing lazy and not caring (his fortnite spree) and to anyone’s surprise Wheeler and the rest of the guys didn’t take that well at all. Then bout the last 2 weeks of the season he started to put in more effort

But after that he needed a new deal, apparently he wanted Matthews $$ or at least close to it when he barely deserved half considering his last half year of play.... held out of training camp, stated that it might be “mutually beneficial” for both sides to move on, publicly made some comments bout not wanting to play with Little (he apologized for that one and tbh I’m on his side there.. on disrespect to Little but they have 0 chemistry) and saying he wanted to play with Scheif.. but how can I justify giving your captains spot who just came off back to back 90 point season to a kid so he’ll sign.... u can’t

But after he signed a bridge deal he came back, had plenty more effort and played a much better all around game... but guess it was water under the bridge at that point

Really happy with the return, but having a possibly generational goalscorer who u watched ever since he was 18 and was supposed to be the face of the franchise for the next decade+ leave the team..... it sucks

Where was it said he wanted Matthews $$?
I mean it's possible and who wouldn't want that but was that actually reported or just assumed?
Cause I've never read or heard that anywhere.

Wheeler can fu*k off! He's a major problem for this team but dumb fu*k management and ownership doubled down on that clown!

The relationship with Laine could've been repaired, they just chose a guy who quit on his teammates and coach instead and overpaid for him too.

The smallest market team in the league just traded the biggest star they'll likely ever have for a 2C, utterly fu*king pathetic!
