clearly not all trades work out to be 1 to 1. But you seem to be missing the point here. You get a known quantity for pieces here. CBJ isn't going to do that as their window is just opening. That is not a team that wants to be in constant rebuild. You fail to realize the situation. They don't need a D prospect. Middle 6 players aren't helping them. There is a bunch of quantity here. They got PLD for 4 years. They aren't doing this.

top 5 is realllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllly pushing it here

3rd 4th .....whatever. Close enough....
Again see comment above. They aren't going to do that. It's like saying BUF should give up Jack for pieces. They aren't. PLD is a 1C. He's a guy you can build around. Not a piece. Hell look at what guys like EK went for. Ended up being top 5 picks.
They can get better.

I get what you're saying, I just think having a disgruntled young star doesn't suit anyone well. They may not trade him until his current contract is up, though, like you said.

Lisa Dillman is very credible. If she said it then they said it.

Lol she’s so creditable that she listed her source as unknown? Hey!! an unknown source told me Mcmichael is going to be a “top 5 center”. Another unnamed source told me Alexeyev is now the best D prospect in the NHL. See I can talk stupid also an just claim whatever also

Harsh reality .... PLD isn’t better than a lot of the young guys coming up/ currently playing

Mcdavid
Matthews
Leon
Barzel
Petterson
Eichel

Then you factor in the vets
Crosby
Malkin
Backstrom
Kuzy
Barkov
Tavares
Zab
Oh God I could go on forever

Then high end prospects
Zegras
Cozens
Foudy
Stüetzle
Mcmichael
Turcotte
Rossi
Newhook

Your source seem credible. He might never be top 20 lol

Columbus declines. They'd want a better center prospect than chytil since center is their weakest position even if they keep PLD

I don't think you're going to get PLD without giving up one of Lafreniere or Kakko. Likewise, LA isn't going to get PLD without giving up Byfield.

I don't think either team should do it, so I suspect PLD won't be traded anytime soon.

The Rangers trading for PLD makes no sense unless CBJ asks for very little in return. I believe PLD is a very good player and could develop into a great player.

But why would the Rangers trade young players (still on their ELC or soon to be on their ELC) for a $5million contract due a big raise soon? Makes much more sense for NYR to keep all of their prospects and simply sign a UFA center without trading anyone.

It's not like the Rangers have any problems attracting UFA's like so many teams around the league seem to have.

You're not a award winning journalist at The Athletic.

A lot of times, scouts speak on condition of anonymity because they're not allowed by their clubs of employ to share their scouting information with the press.

Did you read the article? You should. You might learn something.

“Award winning” what award? Lol from your post I gathered that some unknown scout claimed that PLD would be a “top 5” wtf do I need to read this unless you can’t properly comprehend what that article actually stated or if you simply bumped the claim from “top 20” to top 5. Unless a bus with the players I listed explodes top 5 is laughable. Sorry.... but if this clown can win an award for claiming things like this EK needs something sent to his house.

you can expect CBJ is looking for a difference maker back, not pieces. Be it top draft pick, prospect, or player.
They don't HAVE to move PLD. They have control for 4 years. That's a long time.

Who is willing to part with with a difference maker and do you think PLD requesting a trade will make the chemistry good, I dont think so

dude you have no idea how much that team has no through. this is a blip.
Every year it's something. Last year it was Josh, the year before Panarin and Bob. Yet they still go out and play. This is TOR. Foligno gets in their heads and sets them right. Say what you will about Nick, he's a good captain and he gets guys to play for the team and other guys. He always has. Who gives up what isn't really the issue right now. Like I said, they got 4 years. They aren't moving him unless they get what they want. That's a realization the player already knows.

But PLD doesn't want to be there, that's a huge factor in his return. If he's not dealt at the deadline this season or over the summer before 21/22.... it might get ugly in Columbus.

If its NYR, something like: NYR are thin at C themselves, in the system .
Ryan Strome C
Vitali Kravstov RW
2021 1st (Lottery protected -becomes 2022 1st if NYR are Lottery eligible for 2021 draft)

LOL your offer is a joke
"it might get ugly".....yeah if they accept that return.
PLD doesn't get a choice where he wants to be or not. Period. That's how it works.

We shall see, when guys ask out, do we ever see the best return ? PLD turned down a big 8 year deal & took 2 instead of 3 because he wants out.
I don't see him getting moved until the summer(offseason) especially in a shorter season this year. He's rumored to want a "bigger stage" so the list of suitors starts shrinking.
Will Winnipeg flip Laine for PLD & risk the same situation Columbus is going through?
I think the Kings got the pieces to land him in all honesty. Vilardi, Kalyev, Helge Grans & a 1st .

No one cares about fake news and your opinions on things. Taking 2 instead of 3 because he wants out LOL that makes sense. He's under 4 years of control. He took 2 years to prove his worth. He wants a big money deal but doesn't rack up points like a big money deal. "bigger stage" yawn....

You clearly don't get how this works. He's got no where to go for 4 years. CBJ is completely in the driver seat.
They'll do what they want to do. Period.
get over your opinions. The team don't care about them.

Again, we shall see. I understand completely how it works.
You are literally giving your opinion as fact. (from your moms basement I'm guessing)
He had the big money deal on the table & apparently turned it down, he doesn't want to be there. Yes, they have control over him for 4 more years, but he's not playing in Columbus past this season, if hes not moved. A holdout will definitely hurt that value.

And this is NYR thread, If you want to troll at least give us all, with your infinite wisdom, the package from NYR that would land PLD?

Fake News? I mean why would i make any of that up?
https://www.dispatch.com/story/sports/nhl/columbus-blue-jackets/2021/01/06/michael-arace-pierre-luc-dubois-exit-plan-columbus-blue-jackets-nhl-muddled-map/4139478001/

"Dubois eschewed a three-year “bridge” contract. He also declined an eight-year deal — which would have been the richest in franchise history. He signed on for two more years, which is to say he put a trade demand in ink."

I disagree with your value. The Rangers are trading away too much. It's hard to determine "value" because all the players NYR is trading are under valued because their not yet proven. Going by talent and future projections the Rangers are giving away too much value. Especially because Gorton could just sign a UFA center for nothing in trade.
