Why I wouldn't do literally any of this is because you are also going to lose Rielly who I think is as good as Jones.

He’s not only ranked high on this site, pretty much ranked top five anywhere that just doesn’t base lists on analytics.

He is absolutely good but in the extremism world we live in, if enough people say he's the best ever, than he's the best ever. And if enough people say someone sucks then everyone thinks he sucks. On top of that, and you sir are absolutely guilty of this, everyone is either terrific or they suck there is no middle ground. Jones is absolutely a terrific player. He certainly isn't as valuable as many on here think but he is definitely a #1 defenceman.

Don't know why the Leafs would have to give up so much, just to get one more year of UFA Jones (who I don't think signs with the Leafs anyway.)
If Leafs need cap for a Dman, trade Nylander and get assets in return.

You can't replace a 90 point playmaker in his early 20's who never hit his prime yet. If you don't want to see another Leaf win a cup, you better hold onto Marner.

I would take that trade in a heart beat. The Leafs are getting a top two defensemen who can make a great partner for Rielly.

I tend to disagree with your Nylander trading syndrome but if the right deal came along I'd be ok with it because I think in the next couple of years that production will be able to be covered by Robertson (not saying I expect the same production, but enough to keep the offence intact without Willy). I'd want this in the offseason so a) we get a jones extension in place first and b) the offence would look pretty bad other than the big 3 if this happened right now.

I agree Nylander is better than rated by many, but Jones and the cap flexibility could turn this team into an elite defensive team with the same high-octane offence. "8 more points" undersells the difference in production, its a 93 point pace for a 72 point pace (in 82 games)

Long term, we can't afford Rielly with this. So we would essentially be trading Nylander and Rielly for Jones and that is a horrible idea.

I still don't think that is worth the 4 mil extra in cap space, you could sign a top 4 D and a 4th line Vet for that much

Some of you Leaf fans are delusional... Jones is on the cusp of a Norris, or multiple Norris trophies. His advanced stats back it up. He's one the 5 best defensemen in the league.

I'd take it in-between the extremes here. I don't think he's gonna win a Norris with guys like Hedman and Carlson still wreaking havoc, then by the time they're done Jones will be a bit older and guys like Heiskanen will be hitting their prime and winning those trophies. Apparently his advanced stats don't back it up, but I think the eye test has to be applied here considering how much of a workhorse he is. Realistically I think its safe to call him a top 10 defenceman. And I think Nylander and a 2nd, if CBJ is blowing it up at the deadline, is pretty good for a year and a half of Jones (yes its contingent on his resigning but that has nothing to do with CBJ really)

Bruh I think u can’t read... pls tell me what advanced stat backs up Jones outstanding play ? He’s not even a top 20 dman and have the Willingness to call him top 5 bruh. His OFF was 5.2
His DEF was 0.6
His xWAR was 1.8

For comparison, Jake Muzzins stats over the last 2 years

Muzzin is literally better in every single advanced stat compared to Jones. Jones would be the third best dman on the Leafs, and not to mention, he only has 16 more points over the last two years than Muzzin while playing on the PP, and Muzzin gets no PP duty at all.

So please tell me, what advanced stats back up Jones being a Norris trophy dman, yet alone a top 20 dman. And next time look at ur stats before speaking
