Samsonov will pull ahead of this group....the Caps are a goalie making machine.

if you seriously think hes a calder favourite you're fooling yourself. It's Lafreniers award unless he gets injured.

Kaprizov, shestyerkin , and sorokin have a better chance of winning the Calder than lafreniere. Quinn is not a good coach and lafreneire won’t get the opportunity to produce enough to win the Calder.

oh my god you're crazy lol. None of those players do. Laf may start third line, but by halfway through the season, he'll be on a first line with Zib

It’s also about opportunity. Kaprizov is older and you can argue he’s more NHL ready than laf. Kaprizov has a good chance of getting 1st line minutes because MIN doesn’t have a lot of good offensive minded forwards. Sorokin will run away the #1 job within a few weeks and shestyerkin in already NYR #1. They all have a better chance of winning the Calder.

Have you watched how quinn handles young players? It’s highly unlikely he’ll get put on the 1st line in his rookie season.

Laf is on another level though. He will be promoted quickly. I just don’t see any situation where he doesn’t win the Calder unless he gets injured.

Based on their play so far
Hart
Shesterkin
Samsonov
Demko
Jarry
Sorokin

what were you watching?
Demko had a .905 save% Jarry was standing on his head with .921

Based off play it's Hart Jarry everyone else.

But it's way to early to answer this question, as people are just going off names at this point. Sure as hell aren't going off what anyone has done on the ice.

Too many players here haven't even played 40 games in a season. So lets not get ahead of ourselves. 12 games isn't nearly enough to determine where a guy will be. They can just as easily fall apart.

I don't use SV% to evaluate a goalie's performance. It only measures the quantity of shots.
Second, when someone say " right now ", I don't use only one season.
If you asked me who was the best based on this season, sure Hart-Jarry are 1 and 2 but that wasn't the question, at least not how I interpreted it.

nice dodge...try again.
you can go down the list there, Most of those guys have very little NHL experience so if you are talking quality of shots, you can sure bet that's a huge deal. On top of it, as I stated before, Jarry was standing on his head. That's why he made the allstar team. He wasn't simply blocking quantity of shots.
But hey, you said their play so far. And out of all those guys excluding Hart, his play has been better and his competition and quality of saves have been better.
But as I said, it's way to early to tell on any of these guys, none of them have started 40 games in a season other than Hart.

Raanta is a starter when healthy, hank was the best goalie in the league for around a decade in his prime, shesterkin has looked elite even though the small sample size, and georgiev with a bit more development will eventually move on and be a starter elsewhere

Funny is the goalie desperate Sens had kept C. Anderson while letting prospects Elliot, Bishop, Lehner and Driedger leave become starters elsewhere.

Again it doesn't matter cause none of them would be available. No matter what way you word it, all of them would be protected by their respective clubs in an expansion draft. I suppose you more meant which of them would you have liked to draft in your first NHL entry draft as GM. But that was not the question posed above. The question was assume you are SEATTLE who who'd you want to start your franchise with. Obviously that is a different question than who is the best goalie. Which was basically what you were asking. I assumed you meant who would you pick in the ED if you were Seattle. Hence my answer of none would be available. Now that you sorted out what you meant which was who is the best young goalie right now I would say hands down Binnington. Even though you didn't include him on your list that is the best young goalie right now and who a new re would want if available.

Driedger isn't an NHL starter wake up he's played 12 NHL games. He's likely a career AHLer. And Bobrovsky will bounce back.

Binnington is 27 he isn't young. He was also garbage in the playoffs so no he isn't hands down the best young goalie, because he isn't young or good.

None of them have had enough NHL games to warrant a proper analysis, so honestly I think they could be all considered on the same tier.

But:

Hart
Jarry
Samsonov
Shesterkin
Sorokin
Demko

A 5-game sample size doesn't erase what he's done since 2019.
