doesn't fit inside the cap??? also why would the leafs trade upcoming youngsters who could be with the leafs for a long time to come through their prime for two superstar vets (granted they are amazing and have a lot of experience, won 3 cups) who are past their prime and won't be with them for too long

The Leafs need D, not the whole 2010 team Canada who are in their 30's. Marner's going to be better than Kane 100% and The Hawks do want to move them but it'd be to a team like Ottawa or Detroit

If they did do it though, there'd have to be SIGNIFICANT futures coming back to the Leafs. Sure, you can say "Toews and Kane have proven to be superstars, they're better", but the years of term remaining on Nylander and Marner's contract would need to be compensated. You're looking at 6 combined years between Toews and Kane, compared to 10 combined years of Marner and Nylander (plus first dibs on their extensions). Marner is signed for 5 more years and Nylander is signed for 4 more years.

The package to get them would probably start with the addition of 3 firsts and your two best prospects on top of Kane and Toews.

Going to take a heck of a run by Marner to get to 3 rings, a 1.05 ppg through his age 31 season, on both good and bad Hawks teams, with a number of different linemates of multiple different skillsets over the years.

Could Marner have a similar-ish career? Sure. Is he going to be better? I doubt it.

I agree. Kane's career is hard to top, and in term of whose career is better, It's Kane. But value, based on who will be better in the future? Marner, and it's not even close.
