Description
They got him the old 2C. Now there's no real need to move the guy.

Still think they need to acquire a D though.

They can do a lot better than Leddy. He's been consistently getting worse for 4 straight seasons.

Which is why he's pretty cheap right now. He needs a new environment.

Buying out Leddy makes more sense than this trade - it’s rumored there is interest in Leddy and they’ve taken calls on him. I think Leddy (500k retained) for a 6th is what is going to end up happening

Yeah like the AHL. 4 straight years of decline at his age isn't a "environment" problem. He's just not good enough anymore, costs too much and has too much term. With the Jets own cap issues taking on his contract is a terrible idea unless they are dumping Little as well. Which the Islanders would not, or I should say should not want to do. With Lou you just never know though, he really does like 30+ year olds with term.

Idk, I like Leddy but he has a big cap hit and this doesn't save the Islanders much cap space unless they buyout Perreault which is possible I guess.

If anything the Jets should wait it out and see if Leddy gets bought out by the Islanders and sign him to a mill or two.

This deal makes no sense regardless of anyone's opinion on Leddy. The entire point of the Islanders trading him is to clear cap space not take salary back in return. A prospect or a pick more sense with the Islanders cap situation.

I mean since Perreault's contract has only one year left, Isles could theoretically get rid of that one easier than the Leddy contract...

True, but what's the point he's making 4 million and change this year he'll likely be just as hard to flip as it'll be finding a buyer for Leddy and the islanders need the cap space badly.

I disagree. It's much easier to find a team to dump Perreault in with one year left...also for what it's worth he's $1,5M cheaper.

So you feel 1.5 million is going to solve our cap problems?

Barzal, I'm guessing he'll sign a bridge 3 years for 7 million,
Pulock will lose the arbitration hearing and likely sign for 5 years at 5 million. I mean let's be honest he's not a true number one defensemen in this league, but he is the Islanders number one.
Toews will likely get 3 million over 3 years.

Even if I'm on the low end of their contracts that's still 15 million with 8 million in cap space. Which means they need to clear at least 8 million not 1.5 million.

Two depth guys making 1.5 million or less is your chirp? I bet it's followed by a lot of tears. The Leafs have improved their areas of need while the Islanders face an almost impossible task of affording their most important players. Good luck.

Judging a guy off a hot streak while ignoring 4 straight years of evidence is about as bad a mistake a person can make. Leddy has been worse each year and has a few good games and that's all anyone remembers. Just silly.

Simmonds is not an NHL player and neither is Bogosian , got carried by hedman (TOR doesn’t have a hedman). Dubas caved to the fanbase who wanted grit, but he got the wrong players. No chance they get past TBL or BOS in the playoffs next season, if they even make it

1.5 mil won't solve your cap problems. But a player that's 1,5 mil cheaper is much easier to dump somewhere else.

Simmonds is healthy for the first time in 3 years. He isn't going to be a guy who scores a pile of points, I'd be thrilled with 30 points and good enough play.

So's Leddy for a prospect or a pick with no salary coming back. Just because a few guys on here that no nothing about Leddy's true value doesn't mean an actual GM out there can't see it. Boychuk however is a different story. I can't see Lou fielding too many calls about him.

Nah. I don't believe NYI can move Leddy without taking some salary in OR without retaining some themselves. There's just not enough teams interested.

Even Määttä, who I believe is the superior player in terms of level and value garnered an ECHL player as return...and CHI had to retain some of his salary.

Well don't get me wrong because I don't buy into all the hype and rumors BUT if the rumors happen to be true Lou's been fielding calls about him so someone's clearly interested. What kind of deals they're offering I wouldn't have a clue, but since Lou hasn't pulled the trigger the rumors are false or they aren't what Lou's looking for in a cap dump.

The Määttä deals a bit puzzling, but then who knows what Bowmans doing in Chicago? I think there's more going on than what's being reported all his deals just seem so bad. I don't how else to say it...lol

True, Bowman sucks ass currently. Lamoriello got voted best GM of the year, so he probably has more insight regarding the moves he's making...
