We have Toews, Dach, Strome, Kampf as our centers, and McCann is more a center, but this would for sure mean moving him the LW as he won't replace Dach or Strome at the C. That said, the LW is relatively crowded with Debrincat, Kubalik (both whom he wouldn't replace) and Nylander and Highmore (rounding our the bottom 6). That means McCann would be replacing Nylander on a ELC so not sure that makes sense from a cap perspective and more importantly, doubt the Hawks are ready to give up on Nylander. More importantly, we create a big hole in our top 6 losing Saad on the RW side and don't have someone to fill in that spot on our roster or prospect pool.

I don't see this idea working out even if McCann despite being a downgrade to Saad, offers Chicago a young RFA.

I completely disagree. Brandon Saad is incredibly overrated by us hawks fans. McCann would be a great 3C, that the hawks hawks need.

You trade Strome then bc I'm pretty sure McCann can actually win faceoffs and play defense. Way better fit for the third line.

McCann has about a 46% FO win percentage. Strome will come cheaper then everyone thinks for a 1 year deal so not sure it helps out with cap either. We create a giant hole in our top 6, then trade Strome for what? We'd need a top 6 guy coming back or a legit #1 LHD for Strome; draft picks aren't a good return IMO.

He's not if you look at Saad's advanced stats beyond being on pace for 30 goals this year prorated to a full season. You have to look at his great possession numbers, ability to strip the puck, playing both the forecheck and backcheck, playing both the PK and PP, transitioning all 3 zones, strong on the board battles, .50ppg career playoff player (.55ppg this playoff cycle), etc. McCann is a flat out downgrade and while he can play defense he's not better then Saad in all aspects of the game; would be silly to suggest that.

We need a top 6 guy even with Saad in the lineup. He's got the potential to put up 50 points but never does. Hawks aren't adding big names this off-season. Having strome on the 3rd line makes no sense at all. The 3rd line needs to be able to play reliable defense, thats why adding McCann makes sense. Also Strome will not be cheaper.

Maybe McCann is, but to say you don't care about Saad tells me your don't understand what type of player Saad is and don't understand how difficult it is to find a to 20 2-way winger in the NHL. You can always find bigtime scoring wingers (at a price of course) as UFAs every season; Hall and Hoffman (likely available now) this season. Finding a winger that brings a total 2-way offense and defensive game to the ice at the level Saad does or even much better then Saad (Hossa, Stone, etc.) is very difficult. These types of players are invaluable in the playoffs especially, Toronto is hopefully figuring that our as an example of team without one.

Strome, since becoming a hawk, while lacks defense is also a .76ppg center who's only 23 years old. I'm fine giving him up for McCann if we are able to replace Saad or getting a true #1LHD player or prospect but moving him for picks and moving Saad just because you think McCann is a better 3rd line center is just silly. Have to have a plan in place not make a trade in a vacuum and hope for a good outcome when you are leaving a big hole as the result of the trade.

OMG I MEANT I DONT CARE ABOUT TALKING ABOUT HIM ANYMORE. Thanks for giving me lectures every time I respond to you. Brandon Saad is awful in the offensive zone. He's a turnover machine when he crosses the blue, with attempts to pass it back to his blue liners, instead of SHOOTING THE PUCK. That's great that he can hold the puck, but he doesn't know what to do with it most of the time. He wasn't even on the power play for most of the season. His defensive numbers don't matter when the team is at the bottom of the league in total defense anyways. He's OVERRATED by hawks fans and especially you.

Look man, there are some very knowledgeable people on this website and very knowledgeable Hawks fans. If you are going to spew opinions that aren't supported with facts and data let alone people who understand the intricacies of the game, then you likely are going to get back analytical facts that either support what you're saying or not support what you're saying. In this case, they won't support what you're saying. If you want to use hard facts and discuss that then by all means but opinions and incorrect ones at that are far from factual.

Saad = 25 giveaways to 40 takeaways this season; besides 1 season he's never been a turnover machine (25 is not) and he's always had a huge advantage in takeways over giveaways. His possession numbers also support how strong he is on the puck and doesn't cough it up often. So your comment saying "he's a turnover machine" is factually incorrect.

Saad is also not a shooter. The problem with a lot of fans is they think every offensive player needs to be a shooter from the dot or further back in the zone. Saad's job is to transition the zones, attack the boards, and play around the net...all of which he does well at. Saad knows he's not a shooter outside of directly in the slot (on pace for 30 goals look at where they come from) so the scheme is indeed for him to dump the puck to Kubalik (a shooter) or Toews or one of the shooting defenders joining the rush.

His defensive numbers absolutely matter for a team that has bad defense....that is the point, simple logic here....removing him would make the team defense worse not the same or better.

He's not overrated by Hawks fans or me, he's simply misunderstood for fans that don't intimately understand hockey beyond goals and points and the different roles players play on the ice.
