Canadiens trade: Vrana meets Montreal's biggest need for a scoring winger, and he's also younger than Danault with a few more years of team control. Danault would take Kuznetsov's spot at 2C while Kuzy moves to wing to replace Vrana, which would go a long way towards fixing the problems with team defense. I think Vrana's more valuable than Danault because of the team control aspect, so the Lehkonen-Panik swap is evening out the value. This trade hurts me cause I love Vrana, but I'm really high on Danault as well. Lot of risk for the Caps if they can't work out an extension for Danault, so if Ovie's really serious about getting 12M+ I'd scrap this and resign myself to having to trade Vrana's RFA rights for futures in a year.
Predators trade: Nashville fans have said 3rd pairing defense is a need, so Siegenthaler makes sense for them. With Dillon re-signed (Caps are rumored to want him back) and Fehervary breaking through, I think Siegenthaler's an odd man out due to the Caps surfeit of LHD. I think he'd love the chance to play with his countryman Josi, and he'd basically replace Hamhuis as a 3rd pairing PK specialist, with 2nd pairing upside. Jarnkrok's usage dropped when Hynes took over, so a reunion with Lavi would probably be good for him. His contract is fantastic for a middle-6 winger who can fill in at center if needed. I could see the Caps adding a mid-round pick here, or Hagelin if the Preds would be interested in him.
Jets and Sabres trades: Pure cap dumps, destination isn't so important. Kempny and Hags aren't bad players, but Kempny's pushed out by the same crush of LHD as Siegs, and Jarnkrok and Lehkonen make Hagelin expendable. He could stay if the team is confident in Samsonov and Vanecek as the goalie tandem.
Cernak: I don't see any way the Lightning could afford to match that offer sheet. Paying a 2021 2nd to add a guy like Cernak is fantastic value, and he's probably cheaper cap-wise than any of the higher-end RHD available through free agency. I think this is a home run if Cernak's willing to sign the OS.
Dillon: He starts out on the top pairing but moves to the 3rd when Fehervary shows he's ready to play with Carlson. A bottom 4 of Orlov-Cernak and Dillon-Jensen is basically two shutdown pairings. I don't see many other options in free agency that I'd be happy with, maybe Kulikov or Chara? Dillon seems more realistic since we already know the Caps are interested.
Weber: Might as well get another ex-Lavi player for 7D.
Greiss: Splits the starts with Samsonov (or Vanecek if Sam's not ready by the start of the season), gone before the cap crunch happens next offseason. Greiss is of those guys I've always like for no particular reason which is why I picked him, but I could also see Talbot or Crawford.
Le salaire annuel moyen (AAV) de l'offre hostile est calculé en divisant la valeur totale du contrat par: 1. La durée totale du contrat, ou 2. Cinq ans
Is Kuzy that bad defensively that he can’t play C?
It's been pretty rough the last two years. Maybe Lavi can get him to buy in more, but I think the best bet to get him back to 17-18 Kuzy is to let him stop worrying about defense and faceoffs and just have fun being creative in the offensive zone.
I could see a deal like this between NSH and WSH, but I think WSH would need to add.
Any interest in Hagelin as a replacement for Jarnkrok? He was on a 35 point pace last year and he's still a fantastic penalty killer, just a bit overpaid. If not, then would a 3rd work?

Personally if we trade Jarnkrok i want picks/prospects back. I like alot of what i've read about Siegenthaler so i think it's a pretty decent base. Mid round pick maybe? I think clearing Jarnkrok will help create room for a guy like Trenin who is ready to move up into the NHL for us so not really interested in another NHL forward coming back

Nah to Hagelin. I actually just checked and Siegenthaler isn't expansion draft exempt, so I wonder if NSH would even be interested in a deal like this with that info. They'll probably want just picks and draft exempt players in that case. If they traded for Siegenthaler and then lost him a year later, it'd be a big loss overall.

I'd add Arizona's 2020 3rd, or Buffalo's 2021 3rd if this is happening after the draft. Positional versatility is something the Caps have been lacking for a while, and it was really evident in game 1 against the Isles when Eller was out on paternity leave and Backstrom got hurt in the 1st period, so the Caps had to go the rest of the game with Boyd and Dowd as their 2/3Cs. I really like the idea of having Jarnkrok and Kuzy ready to shift to center if needed.

I figured you guys could go the 8 skater route and keep Johansen, Duchene, Forsberg, Arvidsson, Josi, Ellis, Ekholm, and Siegs (Fabbro's exempt, right?). Am I missing someone important?

Unfortunately Fabbro is not exempt.
So it would be 5 D they would want to protect. I honestly think Ekholm could get traded at some point prior to the expansion draft. He has a lot of value as a solid defensemen and then even more now with his great contract during some flat-cap seasons. He's the most expendable too with his age and need for a new contract in 2 seasons. I have a feeling Poile is going to want to go 7-3-1 this time, but we'll see.
Can't evaluate a forward by how many points they score? Lol okaaay
No. You don't evaluate a top 5 Selke player in the league by the points they produce... Also if you want to compare points, compare how many points they both get at 5v5 since he gets no powerplay time

Yes he's good at defense. We know. Vrana isn't bad at defense, he's good too. And you conveniently ignore all the other reasons this trade makes plenty of sense for the Habs.

One if the defensive player the other is an offensive player
yes Danault is a better defensive forward. Vrana scores more. Their PP time is very similar. It's not like Danault doesn't get any PP time.
And again, Danault might not even be a Hab this time next year. He wants a top 6 role. He going to get it there?
You want to risk him walking for nothing? Or get a top 6 forward for him that's 3 years younger with team control now? You act like the Habs are getting totally screwed here which is silly.

Danault is a better defensive forward and produces more offensively. Danault doesn't get any PP time, clearly you don't know what you are talking about.
Danault will be getting a top 6 role here, if he wants to move, we will move him for more value than Vrana.
The habs are getting screwed here. We can move him for more if we wanted to trade him.
