Description
I'm so proud of this team. They continued to prove people wrong all year. Here's a CRAZY stat: The Lightning just won a series that included 4 games (2,3,5,6) that they led for a total of 8.8 seconds.

The Isles just need to focus on finding scoring. An even average PP might have been enough to put us over the top.

I wish pieces of this core didn't have to be broken up. They truly do love and play for each other. The team will look very different in a couple weeks.

Special shout-out to Thomas Greiss. Consummate pro. Won two of the biggest playoff games in recent franchise history. A top 5 goalie in Islanders history. Didn't care that his replacement was signed/traveled/hung out with him and the team either. Go get paid, Greisser.

Bill Guerin is cleaning house and is not afraid if you don't like what he's doing. Mike Russo from MIN Athletic said he expects Bill will revisit this trade if Lou Lamoriello is interested. Well, he should be. But only if it's a deal that makes sense.

He can bury Ladd and Leo if he wants to save. Then, MIN will barely notice a difference in cap. They get a 1st and solid prospect.

Leddy was outstanding in the playoffs this year. Cementing the thought he will fetch at least a 2nd round pick or multiple 3rds. Trotz called Leddy the Isles best player after Varlamov this playoffs. It's a shame he has to go. It's purely for the cap. Love ya Ledds and thanks for the memories. Now go grow that beard back out.

Boychuk has been another good soldier. A true leader in the room and beloved by all his teammates. I wish he would retire and we just pay him his money as a performance coach or something. He has an 8 team "yes" list. Anaheim may not be a contender, but there are far fewer places better to finish an NHL career.

Isles take back Kesler to LTIR/pay him to save the Ducks real money. Anaheim buys out Boychuk if he requests it.

I think the Wild are game for the Parise trade as long as Lou still has the stomach for it. Guerin may not want to retain that much but you never know. If Parise ends up on the islanders I would like to become a fan of the Islanders if you will have me.

Also wahlstrom needs to be on this team or traded this season imo no in between no more development if he ain’t good enough to play trade him with value

I don’t see guerin retaining that much - it would mean that he’s taking on almost 12 mill in cap space for bellows and possibly a late 1st. It just isn’t worth it - isles would have to give up Dobson/sorokin and that’s just not happening.

I saw Russos article and it was just speculation.

Guerin would have to be borderline insane to retain
this much salary, he’d ask for much better prospects and the isles can’t afford to part with them

He just traded Staal for Johannson straight up. He clearly doesn't care about other people's opinions and wants to shake that locker room up. Nobody is safe according to him. So from our side, yes I agree we need some sweetheart of a deal to make it work. Isles need to save cap in the immediate future on any deal involving Parise.

Def a mistake to trade. Let him marinate. He's the first call up in event of injury. I would like to see him play too. But I was just playing around with this team and I'd much rather have this top-9 than a top-9 with Wahlly in it.

After expansion could see him slot in

Obviously i agree it it would be a mistake it’s just if he’s not ready now I feel like it’s still while his values peaked but I’m also not entirely thinkin straight rn and being mad stupid

I see your point, but this is a long term thing.!

The wild aren’t rebuilding , they want to win now and they also have to sign kaprizov and fiala next year.

The best I can see him doing is :

Bellows+Ladd+2021 1st for parise (2 mill retained) to make the contracts equal and there is no shot we can do that unless we want to lose beau or pelech next summer.

Very much agree about Leddy, he was really solid in the playoffs, I think he'd be a good addition for the Jets.

Signing Hoffman for that term would be a mistake. I'm of the opinion that the flat cap will get most UFAs interested in shorter term contracts for the sake of cashing in in 2-3 years. The Isles have shown they're true contenders. I wouldn't be shocked if Hoffman (or ideally, Hall), thinks they can join the Isles for a 2-3 year stint, inflate their numbers playing next to Barzal, win a Cup, then cash in with another team for that juicy 7 years to retirement payday deal that all UFAs want.

As far as Wahlstrom is concerned, I'm fine letting him marinate for another year. Let him build up more chemistry with Holmstrom (this last year's camp they looked SO good together), Iskakhov, etc. I don't think this is another Bellows or Dal Colle case with Wahlstrom, everyone knows he's only in Bridgeport because there's just not room for him on a Trotz roster at this moment.

All critiques aside, this is a plausible and amazing roster. I'm not blown away by a Parise-Barzal-Hoffman line, but both can score goals and that's what we need right now. I'd prefer Parise-Barzal-Hall, we're so close and we should just go for it, but this would still do for a 1st line. No desire to break up the 2nd line from the playoffs. And finally, that 3rd line is scary. It's basically having two 2nd lines, and since the Isles love to put their 4th line against the opponent's top line, this effectively means the other team's bottom 6 is playing Top 6 forwards the entire game.

On a final note, you're damn good at finding creative ways to shed cap. I love that Kesler deal.

Disagree. One more year in the AHL won't kill him.
