All of the best players this draft are forwards. This is a blessing in disguise, we just gotta suffer through this bad year, replace Chara and Greene and we’re back in biz.

If we don’t do the COL deal, the CGY deal would be awesome. Barzal, Monahan, Nelson down the middle with Räty as an eventual replacement would be stacked.

I hate Lou
I don't really blame Lou for Eberle, the Isles are a depth team, you're GOING to lose talent in an expansion draft. I'd have rather have lost Palmieri or Bailey (better yet, not sign Palmieri at all, this already looks like an awful contract), but if Seattle wants a good winger, they'll get one.
I agree on Toews. I'd have rather have lost picks keeping a stud young defenseman than hold on to those picks only to pick up a depth winger. That said, keeping Leddy at the time was a good move, he had a great year for us last year.
As for Parise, he's been a great signing. He's a positive influence on his line and makes league minimum. What's not to like?
Currently, the problem's been Trotz. He really want to run an all veteran team and thinks none of them will be too slow or tired to win a Cup. It's obvious Wahlstrom, Dobson and Sorokin are the future and it's frustrating to see Trotz avoid the writing on the wall.

Dobson, Wahlstrom and Sorokin are all pretty untouchable, the Isles’ small amount of youth is pretty much all they have going for them right now.

2nd line is “Oops, all snipers!”
Not really a puck mover there. But hey, after the way we’ve started, I’m down to try it.
Also, very stoked about Salo and Golyshev getting their debuts. I’m very high on both prospects!

Even weirder is how reluctant to play Dobson Trotz has been. We’ve got a full season ahead of us, plenty of time for any problems with Noah’s play to be fixed, what’s the point in trying to make Chara work from the first game of the season? Especially when we all know Dobson can handle bigger minutes than this?

Bailey
Best thing to do would be to keep Bailey in the Top 6, wait for him to hit a hot streak then flip him for help on defense. In the meantime, let Golyshev be forward 13 rather than Bellows. If we bench Bailey now, we won’t have any ability to flip him.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>joshelkin</b></div><div>Bellows STINKS. We need to move him before teams realize it lol - I'd add Holmstrom to your list as well.
Trotz had very high praise for Raty. While Lou has control of the roster if something is close I'd like to think Louwould take Barry's opinion on what he would prefer. Depending how Karpat finishes their season we may see Raty in BPT by the spring. We'll have close eyes on him to know if he's potentially ready by next year</div></div>
If not Bellows, then it’d be Golyshev. He’s had a good KHL career and both Räty and Holmström aren’t going to be ready by next year imo

Yeah, I hate to say it, but it looks like Bailey’s lost a step.
I doubt Lou would be comfortable with giving Räty a roster spot so soon. I’d see either Golyshev or Bellows getting a third line spot next year instead.
I’d also hope Wahlstrom could get that first line spot by next year. He’s a hell of a play driver and he can clearly make plays happen. I’d love to consistently see him with Barzy.

Lindholm to NYI TDL
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>DiehardRedWingsFan58</b></div><div>So outside of Bellows it's a bunch of crap for Hampus Lindholm, Anaheim trades him they're going to get far better offers then this meh junk. Basically 3 cap dumps in Panik, Hickey and Komarov that in it'sself is a joke.</div></div>
Komarov and Hickey are expiring deals, acquiring them at the TDL is a “cap dump” in name but not at all in function. They’d be included to make the trade possible, but wouldn’t really effect value one way or another. Paník would only be one the books next year and his contract is pretty small.
You really omitted Bolduc’s value here, he’s a future 2nd pairing guy. Bellows, Bolduc and 2nds isn’t “a bunch of garbage”, especially for a guy on an expiring deal.
That said, I get “quality over quantity” arguments. If the Isles took out the two 2nds and replaced it with a protected 1st, I’d bet that’d be enough.

Lindholm
This would be the kind of trade Lou would make prior to signing the guy the following offseason. Not sure Lindholm gets this much on an expiring deal like this, but I honestly would still pay that price. This would make me feel a lot better if Lindholm came extended, but if he doesn’t, I fee like Lou would find a way to get it done anyways.

New York Islanders signed Ryan Pulock (8 Years / $6,150,000 AAV)
A lot easier to imagine the Isles pursuing an actual LD2 next year now. Wow, the Pelech-Pulock defensive pair, one of the leagues best, both on absolute bargain contracts. Good time to be an Isles fan.

Isles should be able to keep this Top 4 on lock for years to come, and GOD is our future bright with this defensive core! Isles just need some of their forward prospects to take a step forward (Wahlstrom will, I have high hopes for Golyshev and could see Iskhakov and Holmstrom being great bargain third line producers).
The future isn’t flashy, but it remains bright!

If Chara’s there to alternate shifts with Bolduc or Salo, I’d be all over this. And while he’s definitely lost a step, he still contributed last year. If it’s a league minimum deal, I’d do it

Getting someone like CDH would make a lot of sense imo bc we plug the whole with a solid 2nd pair dman for the short term but we dont stop the development of salo and bolduc.</div></div>
I’ve proposed trades for CDH in the past, and if we had to get a one year placeholder, he’s the one I’d pick. Isles get a lot of mileage out of having a close locker room and de Haan being a familiar face would definitely help with that. I also think his playstyle, being as physically exhausting as it is, would force Trotz to play Bolduc/Salo every once in awhile.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>UBS_ARENA</b></div><div>Nope. I wouldnt be interested in this at all and neither would lou. He only gets guys he thinks he can resign and resigning lindholm means that we are blocking salo and bolduc. Not really interested in that.
Also i wouldnt move another 1st unless its for a star winger to play RW1, and especially not for a rental. We desperately need that 1st in a really strong draft to help restock the pipeline. Plus that would make 3 straight years without a 1st round pick and 4 straight wo a 1st round caliber pick in the 1st round. I think we would be better off keeping our pieces and finding a cheaper option.</div></div>
Ideally we’d give Salo or Bolduc more minutes and let one of them grow into the role over the season, but Trotz would never put that much trust in a rookie. We’re gonna have to go out and acquire someone, and I really don’t feel like going halfway and getting someone who just plugs the hole.

Revisiting an old idea post signing day
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Warrior24</b></div><div>The Isles forwards are set, and strome does not fit nor do the isles want him. You also are overvaluing him, unless he has a good year he is worth a 2nd. And I believe Lee, Bailey and Palmeri will all produce equal or better then him for the next 4 years.
The only way the isles trade for de Haan is if it is Hickey and a 4th for de Haan. At this point you cannot count on de Haan to play more then 60 games. The benefit to the hawks is after you bury Hickey you saved about 3m in cap.</div></div>
Here’s why I value Strome at a 1st rounder:
- The first rounder will be a late one
- Strome would still be RFA by the end of this season, meaning unless he has his best year yet coming up, he won’t leave in free agency and will likely get another similarly cheap contract at the end of this year
- Strome has the potential to be a good 2nd line center-wing, he’s shown he can score at a high pace before. I see Strome as very low risk high reward while he’s still RFA; either we lose a late 1st rounder for a low cap hit point per two games kind of guy (worth it) or Strome lives up to his potential and we strike gold (even more worth it)
Young RFA center wings are a rare commodity, and its even rarer when a team wants to sell low on one.
But hey, if the Isles can nab Strome for a 2nd I’d be very happy with that!

De Haan is not even close to Bolducs value.
Isles have no need, nor want strome.</div></div>
They’ll need to dump cap if they add, and they really should add given how close they are to a Cup.
In retrospect, yeah, Bolduc is way more valuable. I’m thinking Aho instead by this point.
Isles don’t need Strome specifically, but with as many older forwards as they have, they might want to consider adding a guy who’ll still be good even after Lee, Bailey, Palmieri, etc are all too old to contribute like they used to.

Tbh, I’d much rather part with Palmieri than Bailey. Yes I know that won’t work because we just signed him.
That said, I’d love to add Hertl. I just made a post arguning for the Isles to add a Center-Wing, it just gives Barry infinite options for setting lines. And I don’t think San Jose would scoff at that offer.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Warrior24</b></div><div>Absolutely not from the Isles. Have no need for Strome and De Haan is worth at most a 3rd. Isles are not trading a 1st and their top d prospect for that.</div></div>
Here’s how I hash it out:
3rd= Take Paník and Hickey (it’d normally be more, but taking on de Haan’s contract does a lot to make it a 3rd)
Bolduc=de Haan
1st=Strome
I feel like the only part of that that’s bad for the Isles is Bolduc for de Haan… maybe Aho instead of Bolduc in this trade?

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Stan_Bowman</b></div><div>I don’t know, I don’t feel like this makes us significantly better. Strome and De Hann are both good players and we don’t seem to be getting players or assets of equal quality back. De Hann specifically is a good 2nd pair guy, and I don’t feel confident in anyone except for Beaudin to take his spot in the lineup. The first round pick is sure to be at the end of the round, and the prospect probably isn’t going to be better than De Hann.</div></div>
I can comfortably guess Bolduc has a higher ceiling than de Haan’s current talent, especially when you consider how quickly de Haan’s playstyle will age him.
I feel like while yes, Chicago gets a bit worse here, these assets really help them along while losing assets they don’t need or are actively shopping.
