I'd say that Laine isn't moving to MTL without Suzuki going to Winnipeg with something added to the pile.

Jets dont need an undersized average D-man in Mete, an overhyped prospect who had 1 good game in the NHL. Subtracting that, then Domi, 1st and 2nd still doesn't get you Laine. If the Habs want him it will take one of Caufield or Romanov.

Nah. The major difference between Suzuki, Laine and Danault is that the two earlier are 22 or younger while Danault's 27. Can't see them making such a move.

Any deal for Laine probably starts with one of Suzuki or Kotkaniemi. Not those pieces and probably add in Caufield as well.

Actually, it would have to be Romanov and not Caufield. The Jets don't need wingers, especially tiny ones that will get destroyed in the central.

Good point something around Suzuki and Romanov as a starting point.

Agreed. I would assume Caufield's value around the league at this point is about 0.

Just aim lower. Habs don't want to part with Suzuki or KK so make an offer for Roslovic or Vesalainen instead of Laine or Ehlers. You can't have our best young players without giving up your best young players.

We aren't in a cap crunch, we're not in risk of losing them to UFA. It has to be a hockey trade 1 for 1 or very close to it that addresses a position of need for us. If you don't want to move your best lets talk about the second layer. Roslovic for Domi/Danault type deals instead Laine for 5 pieces. That sort of trade would never happen in our situation as we can take back cap and are in our window. This year was a retool on the back end and then Little's career got ended out of the blue and Buff retired, also out of the blue.

We're looking to acquire an impact player(s) to address 1 or 2 needs dealing from our position of strength which is top 6 wingers. Ehlers/Laine/Connor would demand the biggest return, but the best move for the Jets is likely keeping those 3 and moving a winger that is blocked instead.

I know Montreal fans think he's a lock to score 50 or 60 goals as a rookie, but he's just too small to give up anything good for until he proves he can hack it in the show.

Bergevin did an interview yesterday and straight-up said that Romanov, Suzuki, and KK are untouchable. I understand that the vast majority of the habs laine trades are terrible value but you guys have to lower your expectations for a player on the block as well. Caufield was ranked as the 3rd best prospect by wheeler in hockey on the last prospect list, if Montreal were to move on from him they wouldn't be giving up a lot of other value for Laine.

You're talking about the same Jets team who played Nathan Beaulieu 17 minutes a game last year as not being able to use Mete?

I do agree that Caufield makes sense though as the central piece in a Laine deal.

You mean like how Debrincat has gotten destroyed in the central?

and yes the Jets don't need Laine now, but if you move Laine, Caufield would be exactly the type of player to take his spot on the PP and in offensive situations.

Fine then Laine will never be a Hab, Montreal can look at another Winger then.

You're confusing two very key things: what the Habs are willing to give up and what the Jets would want for Laine.

You're confusing two very key things: what the Jets would want for Laine in an ideal world for them vs. what the highest offer might be across the league for a player that your GM could quite likely be unwilling to pay the salary and signing bonus demands that his agent refuses to budge off. An offer sheet at $10.5mm nets you two (low) 1sts, a 2nd, and a 3rd.

Right, so Bergevin is saying don't expect any major changes. Without at least one of those guys moving, you're not getting an elite player from anyone. It would be like Bergevin going bear hunting with a pea shooter.

What do you think the best offer is (across the whole NHL) that the Jets can receive today that makes sense for both sides?
