What do you think the best offer is (across the whole NHL) that the Jets can receive today that makes sense for both sides?

Let's just stick to the Habs - something with Romanov. Something with KK. Something with Suzuki.

Not something with a borderline 2C and a midget who hasn't touched NHL ice yet. There is absolutely no reason for the Jets to trade their franchise winger for that.

It's the same reason all the Wings fans are laughing at the Mantha trades.

lol, nice cop out. Your point is that they can easily get better elsewhere and yet you find yourself unable or unwilling to put an example out there (that would likely expose you to ridicule from the fans of whatever team you would suggest). Why am I not surprised.

Jesus Christ you people are f*cking stupid.

When did I ever say then can get better elsewhere? Only person who brought that up is you. I literally said they can get better from the Habs...

If Chevy puts KK to auction across the league, Bergevin doesn't need to compete against himself. He just needs to have a better offer than the rest of the league.

Feel free to suggest a trade from a single GM elsewhere in the league that would be better than this suggestion that doesn't get your laughed out of the room from their fan base.

Lafreniere either. What a bust.

Lol. Lafreniere is 6'-1 192 lbs and about 10 times as skilled as Caufield. While Caufield is 5'-7 162 lbs. Most 13 year old boys are larger than that.

The point was the absurdity of saying that if a young player hasn't proven they can do it in the NHL that their trade value is zero. A 15th overall pick is worth that, a 15th overall pick.

No one said he was worth zero. I said Winnipeg isn't giving up major assets that have proved themselves in the NHL if a major piece coming back is a tiny player that has never player an NHL game.

Agreed. I would assume Caufield's value around the league at this point is about 0.

Makes no sense for Has to include Suzuki in any deal for a winger. Domi will fill Winnipegs need for a 2nd line center, but Habs will need to add. Probably a deal like

Domi + Josh Brook + 2020 1st round pick (16th overall) + 2020 2nd round pick (47th overall)

I know most Winnipeg fans don't know Josh Brook that well as a prospect, but I've watched him play a lot in Laval and he will definitely be a top 4 guy in the NHL, powerplay guy, probably 35-40 point Dman. Habs can afford to let him go, with Romanov, Fleury, Julsen, Norlinder etc. the D is getting crowded with young talent.

Exactly. There would be a lot to choose from in the event that THEY decide to move on from Laine.

It could literally be Domi, Caufield, Brook, and a 2020 16oa, and some of these guys would still say no. At the end of the day, it's what Chevy thinks that matters.

You're confusing two very key things: what the Jets would want for Laine in an ideal world for them vs. what the highest offer might be across the league for a player that your GM could quite likely be unwilling to pay the salary and signing bonus demands that his agent refuses to budge off. An offer sheet at $10.5mm nets you two (low) 1sts, a 2nd, and a 3rd.

Why do you think that they'd be low 1sts? Which contending team has $10.5M in capspace to make such an offer? Why wouldn't the Jets just match, it's not like we can't afford to even if hypothetically we didn't want to. Toss that money at Barzal instead if you want to offersheet someone.

I think what the Jets want for Laine in an ideal world is exactly what it would take for them to trade Laine. If the highest offer doesn't meet that standard than he stays a Jet, simple as that.

The two teams with cap space that I could see doing that would be the Habs or the Rangers IF either decided to load up and go for it. In both of those scenarios I believe the first round picks would end up being lower than 2020 16oa that the Habs could offer now. Also, the fact that it's a 2021 pick, just that alone, makes it clearly less desirable than 2020 16oa.

I guess maybe the Habs could but after next season you'll also have to pay KK. Will Domi or Danault still be in the picture? If you assume Carolina decides to return the favour and offersheet KK for $8.5 by 5, with a $10.5 offer to Laine you'd have $19M to fill out 10 roster spots, without Domi or Danault on the books. and then you'd have to do Suzuki the next year which will still be a flat cap year. I don't actually think that the Habs would be able to make it work but maybe.

The Rangers have Panarin, Kakko and Laf. Do you think they really are going to splash $10.5M on Laine too? Again, anything is possible but the Rangers are unlikely to do it.

We do agree that the 2021 & 2022 picks would be less desirable but the pro is we get another year of Laine and will have an even better idea of if we should match that sort of offer or not. I personally think we would just match on the principle that we can't let other teams come in and steal our star players with offer sheets.

With Dumba now likely available, would Domi + Danault + 2020 1st + 2020 2nd for Laine + Pionk make any sense for the Habs?

I can see a bit of a 3 way here where the Habs flip Domi + 2nd for Dumba and then move him to us with Danault and the 2020 1st for Laine + Pionk. Extend DeMelo to replace Pionk. Have Danult be our 2C that we'd need to worry about extending and then add Jarvis/Schneider at 16OA?

What do you think?
