Apart from the fact that there’s still no 3C and that they should dump Smith in the Bering sea/Great Lakes it looks good

I don’t like that Capitals trade. Broberg is a very good prospect one of our best, 14OA is very good could get a good player out of it (Askarov, Mercer, Holloway etc). Then you throw in Puljujarvi. Puljujarvi I’m my opinion is one of our best prospects. Probably our best forward prospect if you consider him a prospect or not, and if you consider Yamamoto a prospect still or not. With that being said, it would be a dream to dump Russell, and Neal as well, but not at the cost of that. Now if you look at our prospects we have Bear, and Bouchard on the right side. Bouchard is going to be playing top 4 in a few years, so we won’t need Carlson. That’s just my thought process on the trade, and on how much I dislike it.

Better, or just less bad? Take Carlson out and sell it to Ottawa. Good luck.

Making what up? That Bouchard is coming to the top 4 in a few years? He is. I don’t want Carlson, especially at that price.

I made this in a hypothetical caps sell thread. Under normal circumstances I would never do this unless it was a rebuild.

Yeah considering he’s a massive upgrade to your d-core and makes your team much better. “Prospects” have played less that 40 nhl games. 0 chance you have a prospect that reaches Carlson level 89 point pace this year 70+ point dman. He’s on a great contract lol you are delusional

Of course I am. If I don’t agree with you I am automatically delusional haha. Carlson is good, but it’s not always about points especially for defence men. All I’m saying is that I wouldn’t do that trade.

We may be biased as Oiler fans but there is a lot to like about both Bouchard and Carlson. There are also a few similarities, starting with elite vision and passing ability. After following Bouchard since his draft year I'd be willing to put money on the fact that he will certainly by top 4 within the next year or 2. Ultimately, I think the point Nhl_oilers is trying to make is that even though Carlson is an elite, top-tier D-man, it wouldn't make a ton of sense for the Oilers to trade for him unless they decide they are going all in. All in all, I think everyone can agree they are glad this wouldn't happen.

I am mystified every time the OIlers don't go all-in. I think most teams, if they had McDavid and Draisaitl taking turns with the scoring lead, might try to make some noise.

I think if you called Ottawa, the 14th overall would let you dump Neal's two years. Detroit would take Russell for Puljujarvi, and maybe give you a 4th for the difference. This boils down to Carlson for Broberg.

You say that but I would bet money that if Holland was asked if he would take this trade, he takes it. You basically clear out Carlsons contract in cap dumps in Neal and Russel, while only having to give up 3 pieces that arent likely part of your teams true core. All while getting a piece that would be your best defenceman but miles.

I disagree. Holland wouldn’t do it. He would be giving way too much good prospects for one 30 year old offensive defence man.

If the prospects were obviously NHL ready at 18-19 Dahlin types I would understand but dude is comparing Bouchard to Carlson and his AHL numbers are worse than Nardella. Bouchard Is going to be 21 by next season and he’s played 7 nhl games. If he’s this good why isn’t he playing bc oilers aren’t good at defense

To many good prospects? Broberg hasnt exactly impressed since being drafted, people don't even know if Puljarjuvi wants to come back to Edmonton and the 14th is still undecided. None of them will likely be close to as good as Carlson is and none of them would help Edmonton as much as him for the next 5 years.

I'm certainly not saying this is the best approach, but it seems the most likely. Given the long playoff droughts and horrid moves, I'd love to see Holland push all his chips in, but it's not too likely. He's already said he probably won't trade the first unless it's to trade down. I also think he truly believes in Broberg to become a top 2 Defensemen. Just my 2cents.
