Description
* Obviously the Oilers won't be as busy as portrayed through this ACGM, but I think there are a few intriguing options noted along the way.

OTT - Taking Russell's cost-efficient salary for 1 year while gaining a 3rd pairing defender shouldn't warrant too big of a cost for the Oilers. Doesn't have to be OTT, I think there are a few teams that would consider this deal.

LAK - Athanasiou is a player I'd like to see more of for EDM but I don't see it happening if they bring back Puljujarvi. His value dropped a bit since the deadline so I could see a late 2nd and a 4th getting it done to a rebuilding team.

MTL - If Ken Holland is open to trading down, I think it's a deep enough draft to get value out of it. Throw in Chiasson who still has value and get a mid-late first and mid 2nd.

TOR - I found it hard to evaluate Johnsson. Let me know your thoughts on the trade? Might not work salary-wise for the Leafs. Johnsson has thrived before playing with top players and with decent speed and shooting ability, I'd love to see him get an opportunity with McDavid.

NSH - Nashville takes on a familiar face in Neal who has 1 less year than Turris with less salary, the Oilers get a 3rd from it? Not sure if NSH would consider but Turris has history with Tippett, and I think he would slot in alright in the 3C position while McLeod develops.

NYR - Unless they get rid of Hank, Georgiev is most likely gone. I can see him getting a little less than Anderson when he left ANA.

Barrie signing for 1 year to spike his value works for EDM to allow Bouchard 1 more season to develop his defensive game.

Kassian with Nygard and Haas worked well last year, and if Haas can improve his faceoffs, I can see him being an effective PKer.

I'm guessing many won't be high on Benson at 3LW but IMO he's outgrown the AHL and his high IQ has made him earn a chance to play with the big boys.

Anyways, just my 2cents. Sorry for the long review, I'm open to suggestions and opinions!

I'd rather just do the Johnsson for Larsson deal straight up.

Bouchard should be either playing on the Oilers or AHL with 1st line minutes, benching him is a terrible idea

My mistake, I meant to have him in the AHL. Hoping to see him start with the Oilers tho!

OTT doesnt want Russell for a one round upgrade.

If any other teams would accept this, they can feel free to let OP know

AA isn't going to be qualified in Edmonton, meaning he'll become a UFA. If the Kings want him (they don't), they'll just offer him a contract on the free market without having to give up draft picks.

A 3.4M bridge deal for Bear? I prefer more of a 4M deal for 7 years. Kind of like Klefbom

Otherwise, good moves

They're not going to just let AA go after trading 2 2nds for him. Probably trade him for at least a 3rd.

I'd love to lock Bear up long term, just not entirely convinced Bear would take it after only playing 1 full season. Either way excited we have a top 4 RD who skates well and can move the puck!

Great. I'd be interested to see which team would go for that, knowing full well that Edmonton can't afford to qualify him. There's not much demand for a pending UFA coming off a bad season.

Fair enough! My hope is some old school GM will look at Russell's PK and blocked shot #'s and take the bait haha

Don't see Montreal having any kind of interest in there. As you've said it's a deep draft and last year Montreal declined a trade to trade down two spots for a third rounder, so why would we take -yet another- bottom six winger and give a mid second for it when this year's a deeper draft? It'd make sense if you were at 12 but trading up only to leapfrog Toronto would basically mean Montreal wants Schneider at all cost.

You raise a good point. Looking back at the order the trade would probably be better suited for the 18-22 pick. My thought process was that MTL has a ton of picks, and Chiasson is pretty capable on the PP. Either way it'll be interesting to see what MTL does with their plethora of picks

Simple, trade all of them for McDavid.

I don't see Kenny letting AA walk. We could see a sign and trade, or a short term deal to stay with EDM, there are lots of players on the roster to move for cap. There were a few suitors at the trade deadline that wanted him, and it's pretty tough to judge him only based on this year due to injuries, a terrible DET team, and a tough situation with the pause.

Seriously now, I don't see Montreal trading away high value picks in this years draft yet. They may have blue chip prospects at all positions but aren't still contender, the addition of Allen only makes us playoff competent, they should keep the stockpile going for another year and then in next offseason start to unload some high pick in exchange of role players. If they go out now for a player they'd be looking for a bit of everything like a top LD, top RW and possibly top LW if something happens with Domi, next year when prospects start making an impact and become core players at the pro level then they'll be able to pin point which specific player they would like to bring in and make the difference but the team would already have strong foundations where I don't see them being there quite yet.
Loved what I've seen from Zook and KK but it's a learning process and at this point they'll be like wine and age good but thinking that trading for a guy like (Off the top of my head) Meier this offseason by unloading precious picks will completely change the team and make us a contender is totally delusional. There'll still be holes throughout the line up that are about to be filled by prospects from the farm system, Bergevin needs to be just a little more patient and let the apple ripe perfectly before picking it up from the tree. I like where he's heading in the third year of his rebuild, he'll bring people in to at least be somewhat competitive on the short term and that'll help the youth instead of acting like early 2010's Oilers where their young players would never see success for years, that's not good for developing your prospects!

Well said ColonelX. Once you get to the playoffs anything can happen (as we've seen). But if MB wants to get the Habs to that top 5 tier of elite teams, I think being patient would be the best route. I've been following this years draft quite a bit and am really hoping Holland can add a few more picks in the top 100. It seems like there are so many guys ranked in the 30 - 100 area that could be hits down the road. With that said, Montreal should be in good hands.
