Blockbuster With Pittsburgh

Description
It was reported by Frank Seravelli that the Penguins Te shopping both Matt Murray and Jared McCann in the same trade. Leafs writer Kevin Papetti thinks that Kyle Dubas should be in on both players, since he managed them while he was with the Greyhounds. Since the Leafs don’t have the cap space to acquire both, it got me thinking of a blockbuster trade.

Murray needs a change of location. I think part of the reason he's struggled is because the pens may not be as good as people think they are. I am not sure their defence is all that good anymore. Jarry struggled in the second half of the season while Murray came on. I'd take Murray although I know I am bias, I am close friends with many of his family.

If we move on from Andersen and some that depends on how we move him, I feel there some way better options.

Murray has way too many red flags.
And like someone already pointed out, Leafs could have had him already if they wanted him... so happy and thankful for that.

I wouldn't be overly concerned if Murray and Campbell were our tandem next season. I am more hopeful that Markstrom may be available for less than what people may think. Again I would want him for shorter term though 2-3 years tops. I think Scott could become a really good player down the road.

You made this to be horrible. Do I really need to elaborate why a troll is trolling?

What'd you guys think of this team? Are they a legit cup contender?

It's bad for TO, if they move Marners(which isn't likely) they're not retaining just to aquire 2 3rd line wingers (we have a pile of those) , I'm a Matt Murray fan but with how saturated the goalie market is the acquisition cost won't be that high nor will a return for Freddie for the same reason

Dubas seems way too high on Marner to trade him

Markstrom is supposedly seeking 6+ million AAV.
If that is the case, Leafs I think are not in the running.

Just not doable cap wise without other major changes.

I agree but I just don't think the market is going to be normal

Thanks for the feedback. I agree, there are a lot of unrealistic scenarios here. But what do you think of the outlook of the team? Are they a contender?

Not really. Let's see how the lineup looks next season opener. Really can't see them being better than Tampa or Boston in the Atlantic. Leafs as with all average to above average teams will need some luck. In the Leafs case...no long term injury to Dmen where they are razor thin on NHL depth. And some Dmen are going have to really step up and play beyond their contract whether it's Sandin, Liljegren, Dermot or whoever.

Honestly, I think the Leafs should trade Marner, but not for that. Only trade him for high end talent of high picks

I think you can. Look. some teams struggle with money at the moment. Marner is still a high end talent that could help out a lot of teams. A lot of teams are not planing to pay dollars up to the cap limit due to covid. Marner actually only has like 8m per year left over the remainder of his contract. and next season only 700'000

Any Marner trade includes a good top 4 RHD with term coming back or else it's not worth it.

Quoting: Miles_Togo
It is extremely unlikely that the Leafs' trade Marner. In the extremely unlikely case that they do a #1RHD is coming back - someone like Ekblad.

Then no Marner trade I guess.

I'm not saying teams won't be interested in him, just the return won't be as high as you'd like cuz the cap hit is still too big for someone who is normally a 9-10 million dollar player.

Look at the Zona Coyotes. they struggle right now. they are not going close to the cap. I think other small market teams will do the same (there are like 15 small market teams)

Usually the teams that will have interest in Marner are teams that are contending or near the end of their rebuild. Teams like Arizona that are starting their rebuild are in no place to give up futures for a big name player. Contending teams need to stay under the cap, so Toronto doesn't have much leverage if they want to sell them an 11 million cap hit player.

you are right under the assumption that teams will spend up to the cap during the next years. But I think some teams will not due to covid. And Marner has an acutal salary that is 3 million lower than his cap hit.
