Sabres can’t trade Dylan Cozens he’s the only good prospect that they have. He’s going to play a big role in Buffalo next year.

Having #3, 5, and 8 overall in one of the deeper drafts in recent history...plus getting a 1C with term on a great contract who scores at 30G + 30A like clockwork and wears a letter in CGY?

The #8 pick could be better than Tkachuk in 4 years. I think the value is there. Plus Tkachuk is going to command (and need to be paid) $7M+ on his next deal (like Matthew), while Monahan will remain cheaper for longer cash wise.

That jump from #22 to #8 is worth a boatload of draft picks...OTT would be forced to think long and hard on this.

Is he going to put up 80+ points every season starting next year? Is he going to make Eichel's life happier in BUF than Gaudreau playing on Eichel's wing would?

I think the answer is no to both questions. This is a deal that offers BUF a chance to get the best player in the deal and seriously improve their offense immediately.

Cozens didn't even get called up for a single game in BUF this season. It's highly unlikely that he's going to play "a big role in Buffalo next year".

For 2 years they wouldn’t be able to afford him after. Plus if you put Skinner back with Eichel he will score 30-40 goals again. Dylan Cozens will be a great 60-70 point 2c in Buffalo.

You’d have to sell the farm and then some to get Brady. It would take a significant overpay

Ok so switch it to:

Monahan
#8
Kylington

for

B. Tkachuk

This is equivalent to adding a 1st rounder and Kylington (= late 2nd rounder) to the deal posted above. And the Flames still pay it and continue building around the Tkachuk brothers.

OTT declines.

The only way CGY can get Brady Tkachuk is by trading us 1OA that they somehow get from NYR

Other than Malkin, and Point/Stamkos name me another consistent 60-70pt 2C in the NHL. Lofty expectations for a guy who’s yet to play a game in the NHL.

you want us to give up our 2C of the future for 2 years of a down year gaudreau? yeah that’s bad.

I mean he’s one of the best prospects in hockey. It’s not crazy prediction. Either way I’m not expecting too much from Kevyn Adams brand new GM with a small budget, he’s not going to trade away their future to get 2 good years out of Johnny.

I don’t see Buffalo moving Cozens unless they’re getting a legit established center back

I kinda think both those deal are a little on the low side.

But for arguments sake, IF you're getting a pick in the top 10 of this years draft, you don't move it right away. You USE it.

And as much as we would all love to have the brothers here, I just don't see anyway that OTT even considers moving him.
The only way I see it even being possible is after next year Brady chose to "hold out" and demand to be traded somewhere that has a chance to be better.
Plus it's no secret Melnyk doesn't want to pay players, so that could drive him out of town.
OTT could get a huge haul by trading him at next years TDL given his RFA status and Ottawas love of never trying to compete.

As for Johnny, if you're gonna move him I'd think NYR or NJD might be a better trade partner to consider.

But ya never know. I'm sure if either of them get traded we'll all have something to say about ti

Metro media in montreal says montreal offered domi, poehling, and a pick. If thats the starting offer, its gonna take some time to get to cozens, 8oa, and some cap going back. Probably a lot of time.

I think your way off base honestly. I think eichel would rather have cozens on his wing this year and a 2nd line to play behind him rather than having gaudreau on his wing.
Thats also not a valid point stating cozens didn't get called up. He was in juniors and can't get called up till the end of the season

There's another reason that they can't trade Cozens....if things go south and Eichel wants out at least they still have a potential high end center on the team. I'm sure if Eichel were to be traded a center would be coming back but at least we wouldn't be a center short again.
