Description
I really don’t know how Dubas values him compared to Kapanen (who the Pens overpaid for anyway) so the 3rd could become a 2nd but that’s about how much I’d be willing to pay. On the other hand I’d be willing to not have to give up Murphy if i gave up too much

Maatta or DeHaan gets moved, I personally prefer DeHaans defensive play and so would keep him but Bowmans obviously the one who makes that choice

Smith gets dumped somewhere and i threw in Caggiula and Ejdsell as “sweeteners”

that is too much for Johnsson. A 2nd round pick is closer to what he is worth

Was he that bad this year? I was really high on him last year but didn’t see him much this year and I thought he was valued ahead of Kapanen at least

Leafs would take that, but we don't have much of a spot for Alex Ny. Deal probably gets done without him

Oh god. If Toronto robbed Pittsburg in the Kap trade, then they absolutely pillage us in this trade. Johnsson is not worth a single one of those assets, not even the third in 2022.

I honestly question your fandom of the team if you think this trade makes us better.

I honestly think he is a better overall player than Kapanen. A lot of people here think that he is bad, but he is absolutley not. I quite like Johnsson as a player and he plays very competitive.

I think what got Kapanen what they payed for was simply his speed and that he is good on the PK

Johnsson dealtbwoth injury issues this year. Plus his cap hit is a little high on a flat cap. That said he is likely in the right situation a 20 goal middle 6 winger. So if healthy he has value even at 3.4 per. But that trade would be overkill. Johnsson for Murphy with balancing picks works out well I think.

We have two options, let Pius Suter play on the second line, or leave Strome with absolutely nobody on the third.
Murphy looked like he should’ve been using a walking stick this postseason, Nylander had 0 points and was healthy scratched so I’m not sure why you think that we should keep those guys over someone who is easily better than both of them.

I feel like you may over value Murphy. On a good team he is a third pair guy that can play up due to injury. Much like Holl does with the Leafs. Both guys are best suited in bottom pair roles. Nylander is not likely going to be much more than Johnsson is now.

Cham... I understand what just happened with Kap. But as you mentioned in your descriptions...sometimes trades are just bad trades. Hall was traded for Larsson straight up too. So that's 1st and foremost. 2nd...Kap is much better than AJ.

AJ was statiscally....literally the 4th most assisted player in the entire NHL...meaning he was provided more support than every single NHL player besides 3...and they were all on the most dominant line in the NHL for half of last season. Kassian was the most supported player in the entire NHL... 2ndly...AJ played 86% of his time with Matthews. This is kinda the same thing, but it's more a reflection that we don't have an Auston Matthews. We just don't. Toews is my guy, but they're entirely different players. AND AJ really just didn't produce that much, but I'll admit his injury hurt his production too.

I'd rather have Nylander and his ELC than AJ and his $3.4M...straight up. Period. Hawks can't afford to take on AJ's insanely stupid contract. He's not worth Murphy...he's not worth Nylander...he's not worth the 3rd alone...IMO, but that's because of his insanely stupid contract.

***EDIT*** I forgot the link...it's below...

The fact that Dubas rinced Rutherford shouldn't be a factor in future trades.
The only way it is, is if your team has a similarly rinsable GM. One of the reporters shared a list of the people Dubas had been in contact with re. Kapanen, if I was a fan of one of their teams I would be sweating, those are essentially people he thinks are suckers.

Sorry but I think I'll take my chance with that 5th round pick instead of taking that pile of bottom six forwards.
