Description
Obviously Toronto Area reporters all in saying Pietrangelo wants to leave. I have said this from the start and its funny how Toronto fans and fans from other teams all said no he doesn't I gave the reasoning. He's been a Blue his entire career, already captain, his family has settled here with triplets and another on the way, his wife wants to stick around St.Louis because her family is there, St.Louis probably could give him the best amount out of everyone because let's face it even if Toronto offered him more on his contract, Taxes would exempt the extra money income because Toronto is ridiculous with taxes. All of the right reasons. Not saying he IS 100% staying, but he said he would like to stay as a Blue if the contract is right. Obviously the contract that may or may not have been offered was not near his market, but now it's flat cap. I'd say he probably takes a little cheaper of a contract with a guarantee of more money in the future if he decides not to go long term.

& Tavares said all along he wanted to stay in Toronto...

Not saying Pietrangelo is signing in Toronto, but every player says they want to stay. If they said otherwise, they league would probably look into tampering allegations cause they're so dumb. It's just the way the players are trained. Wouldn't take what he says too much to heart.

Just gonna say that you're talking about a difference of 7%... when you factor in an exchange rate of 30% because they get paid in USD but live in Canada, they actually get paid more... now cost of living is higher and cost of living in Toronto specifically is about as high as it gets... but the tax argument is kind of a moot point. Gving up 7% gain 30% on exchange is definitely not as serious a negative as people make it out to be. I don't think he's going to Toronto but I'm just saying that a 7% tax difference isn't gonna change my mind on where I play.

Story behind it Jeremy Rutherford said he was crying during the final picture they had because they all thought it might be the last time as a Blue. It's still very very preposterous to just think Toronto is gonna get him. I still think it's preposterous thinking he does wanna leave.

Think you meant NY

@BeastModeUnknown

Have to say that no player is going to say they aren’t staying.

I’m sure petro would like to stay, but given the teams current cap and build position I’m not sure they have a ton of room for him.

As far as taxes the difference on a 9m contract is 700k. Once you add sponsor money and subtract taxes for front loading it would be negligible.

I seriously do hope the leafs don’t sign him. Not a good fit. Play wise and contract wise with his age.

They are saying he would make around 10M. St.Louis tax is 11% so he would be making just under 9 Million at that point.

1m per season at 10m (god that would be a bad contract) but again that is not taking into account signing bonuses (which are taxes way less). Plus the fact that petro can invest that money right away. Plus the other good things that come along with the leafs market.

But again... I don’t want him to sign here... and I don’t think he will.

But that's just state tax, federal tax is what kills everyone. Making over $518,400, he gets taxed at 37% on top of the 11% state tax. So he takes home 52% of his contract, but still has to pay union, agent, escrow, etc.

where was this officially reported?

not that i don't doubt you; i think he'd actually take a pay cut to remain on the blues if it came to it.

I think anyone with common sense believes that Petro wants to stay. So that explains the Leafs fans. I can't believe you are really getting this worked up over a fanbase that immediately wants to trade their best players after 1 bad game.

People say he likely won't re-sign in St.Louis cause they don't have the cap. And when they had the cap and chance to extend him they acquired and extended Faulk and extended Scandella. He may want to to stay, but I don't see how they're gonna fit him in at anything that isn't well below market value.

Honest question here, how will that play out Cap-wise ? Emergence of Dunn and Pietrangelo's money go 12M intotal ( at least ). Also Armstrong just re-signed Faulk and Scandella ( which both together cant cover Pietrangelo brings to the table )

And pls dont give me usual TML homers crap where they simulate how other 30 Teams are there to make TML better ( so no "Everybody wants Steen and Bozak" type of argument )

Bozak Steen Allen are probably moveable pieces. Bouwmeester’s contract is gone which is what Scandella takes that money right back. Gunnarsson is gone. We would have about 17 Million and spending 12 Million.
