Realistically, it's not a terrible deal but it's a slight overpayment. Hallander has struggled the last couple of seasons and maybe Pittsburgh was starting to give up on him, so he wouldn't carry much value. Rodrigues just didn't fit in and was likely the roster player that had to go to fit Kapanen in. The 15th overall is a bit of an overpayment, Kapanen is likely worth a 20-31 overall pick, but with that not being available for Pittsburgh to give up it had to be 15th. Plus Kapanen could explode beside Malkin so don't beat the deal too much yet

Rodrigues sucks and Hallander was getting kinda mediocre before he broke his leg. 15 OA is kinda a lot for Kapanen but they also get Lindgren. I think both sides are blowing this way out of proportion

Unless JR expects a 1st (moving a goaltender), then this trade is going to crush him as Penguins GM. If there is any team who needs a draft pick in this deep draft, it is Pittsburgh.
