Description
Not sure if DET is looking to tank but they need a goalie. If we trade Freddie and need a change then it’s for picks. Matt Murray trade is to get slightly younger and cheaper than free agent goalies out there.

Kapenen trade is heavy on second round picks but I’d rather do that then give up on Nylander.

Giving up Marner sucks but that’s the only way to get cap relief. Taylor Hall gives us a different dynamic that drives the net.

Overall it’s a dream but some improvements to D at expense of offence. (GM note: I believe the team will stay the same as there is no room to trade in this stagnant cap and Dubas won’t give up on Marner or Nylander our 2 best chips)

Take out everything but Marner in that Anaheim trade and it's still a garbage trade for TO.

Fair point about the Hall being 36 at completion of contract. Hate the thought of trading Marner but hard to fit any good dmen in under this current cap

Yeah thats an easy no from Detroit. Taking Zetterberg has no effect on Detroit he on LTIR and his contract has 1yr left on it.

Detroit had $11,187,878 in LTIR relief if needed the used $26,285

Not a 30 year old goalie on a 1 year contract and will probably walk at the contract wnd as he will be FA. Not a trade a rebuilding team makes. We have Bernier who is decent and was the best player on the team next year. Can sign a Free agent to back up Bernier and wait for next year when expansion comes into play.

Rebuilding teams don't give up multiple 2nd rd picks for aging, soon to be UFA goalies and Bernier was fantastic last year especially considering how bad the team in front of him was

Alexandar Georgiev, Tristan Jarry/ Matt Murray via trade are the goalies I hope they are targeting. Not a soon to be 31 year old goalie cap dump for an LTIR contract (asset) + 32nd overall + high 50's overall: what are you smoking? That same group of assets should easily land one of Georgiev/Jarry/Murrray.

No they aren't in tank mode. Ken Holland screwed them with bad contracts: Darren Helm, Frans Nielsen and Justin Abdelkader ate $13.35 million of cap space and scored 13 goals combined. They got off to a terrible start after losing their top d-man, Danny DeKeyser, plus their leading scorer, Anthony Mantha, to injuries. They then had a patchwork lineup of NHLers and AHLers. As they choose not to bring up some of their best prospects to preserve their ELC's (Moritz Seider, Joe Veleno, and even demoted Michael Rasmussen plus held Zadina down in the AHL until well into November). They scored a league-low 2.00 goals per game had the league’s worst penalty kill and were 29th on the power play.

And the Wings could vary well roll with Bernier. He kept them in most games even when they didn't deserve to be as shown by his decent stats other than W-L:
Jonathan Bernier
Stats: 46 games, 15-22-3 record, 2.95 GAA, .907 SVS, 1 shutout. On a team that only won 17 games that's somewhat impressive..

Beyond that the UFA/RFA/available goalie market is a buyers market so there will be better options available.

I think that’s a good assessment for Detroit and there does seem to be several free agent goalies that may be available. Just not sure Det would be in on them at this stage.

I don’t think the canes deal is a joke. Of course you want Nylander but we of course want Slavic which isn’t going to happen. Plus there were rumours that Car was interested in Kapenen
