i do understand that Jones is not as good as many people think. but with his past we know he CAN be that good and taking on a contract like marner's in a flat cap era does not seem like a great idea for a team like CBUS. also, savard and peeke are our only RHDs behind Seth and RW is our position of strength with Bjorkstrand, anderson, Atkinson, and foudy who can play C or RW. Our org is also incredibly high on Bemstrom. Marner is great but it just isnt worth it for CBUS imo

The problem is, if you take Jones, then all of the sudden Columbus's (Columbusi? Colubuses?) biggest need goes from more offense, to a top pairing RD. You dig one hole to fill another. Doesn't make sense.

Savard remains the only RD in Columbus that I could see them listening on, but even that would be doubtful, considering the return wouldn't come close to making up for the loss of the player.

I’m not doing it as Columbus. I love Marner but he has made it clear he wants nothing to do with Columbus through rumors and the rumors are backed up by a few remarks made on his twitch streams. And Jones is kinda the teams engine. If he’s going then the team is going

That’s a no from Columbus. Marner is great but doesn’t even fill the teams biggest weakness. We need a top 6 center to go with PLD. Marner is a wing, we don’t exactly have a huge need for a wing. Also Columbus can’t afford Marners contract as that would likely mean losing Jones and Savard as Savard is a UFA at the end of the season.

Columbus really can’t make this trade without making other trades to open cap room.
