how about no to this

We can get a late 1st for Kapenan especially in this flat cap era as many teams will want a cheap 40point 2 way forward and Kapenan fits that description. Also can get more for Kerfoot so pass.

Of I agree, but as I said in the description this is selling low to create cap space

I mean we could easily package Beagle and that 3rd to Ottawa instead not saying the Sutter deal isn't fair tho

You need to move all of Sutter,Beagle, Eriksson and Sven to even consider signing any RFAs or UFAs over the next 2 seasons - Sutter would just be the most useful player to TO and I even sold off TO's very capable and young middle 6 Forwards at a low low sale to help out Benning with his Math problem

You've just traded what equates to a very good NHL 3rd line for scraps and a overpaid pending UFA that is well past his due date.

I would agree that someone is likely on the way out for cap reasons.

This makes the team much worse that it was before IMO.

I'd rather be tight to the cap with what we have than 4 million from the ceiling with this version.

Even with Robertson included, that bottom six just does not move the needle one bit for this Leafs fan.

100% pass for me.

agreed. I'm not taking a 3rd rounder in exchange for taking a bad contract, nor am I willing to be downgrading at 3C and 3RW in doing so. We aren't in a position to be taking other team's cap problems given our own situation

Sutter is merely a stop gap for a single season at 3 C , feel free to use the 4 million in cap space to sign the RHD that solves all the issues or use it to strengthen the bottom 6 , that's why it's there

It's a very good NHL line that is a luxury we can't afford , which is unfortunate, highly doubt we get market value for any of the 3 players mentioned except maybe Kapenen

ok but I'd rather keep kapanen than take on Sutter. Taking his contract achieves nothing for the cap situation

Except here is clearly does, Kap can't play C Sutter can, it's basically creating cap flexibility for this current season and the next season as Sutter is no longer on the payroll - basically thinking niether Brooks or Spezza can handle 3 C on their own or by committee Sutter probably can, then next year there is Brooks, SDA (doubtful but possible) and Abramov to battle out for the 3 C position

Oilers would normally take that deal. In this case they only do if they can move out some salary. Maybe they can make a deal with Ottawa to take Russell. I know Russell's cap hit is 4 m, but he's only owed 2.5 m in actual money next year.

Maybe Russell and a 4th for a 7th?

If Edmonton can move Russell... they take that deal immediately.

Makes no sense at all.

Sutter is a stop gap for what exactly? All of the NHL ready centres the Leafs have in the pipeline? C'mon.

The Leafs are in no position to be taking on someone else's bad contracts. Period.

Like I said earlier, trading one of Kapanen, Kerfoot, or Johnson is likely for cap compliance reasons. Trading all three of them is just plain stupid. There is no need for that.

Nothing about this scenario is beneficial to the team in the immediate or long term.

Still, hard pass from me.

None. That is exactly my point. Here is your direct quote...

"Sutter is merely a stop gap for a single season at 3 C"

The term stopgap implies that he is a place filler until someone else is ready. There isn't anyone else ready or coming. Kerfoot is a qualified 3C under contract for the next three seasons.

You've traded an entire quality 3rd line and then referred to it as a "luxury" that the team cannot afford. That statement is pure bunk.

Again..... Someone will be moving. You can count on that. All three of them moving is just plain dumb and not something that this organization will do.
