Because while Nylander is good, Fox was the Rangers absolute best defenseman all year. You don't trade a 40 point rookie stud dman for a 2nd line wing/center.

Nylander would probably be on the Rangers top line with Panarin and Strome.

Fox is one of those players NY would be dumb to move. He is there best defenseman and they need him on that blue line. On top of that he wanted to play for them so moving him could cause him to not play well. So NYR reject.

Yeah it would be a pretty unique situation (IMO MTL resign him), as I couldnt find any comparable at TDL.

Based on the Barrie deal, you are very close.

Even if you talked NY into the Fox deal, you’d have to talk Fox into playing somewhere other than NY. I’m pretty sure that’s how they got him to begin with

Rangers aren't trading Fox...and even at that the 6m cap difference makes it not practical for the Rangers.
Petry isn't worth a starting forward at TDL. Like the defence but RW is now a mess
