meaning nothing crazy like trading one of the core 4 forwards, a top prospect, muzzin, rielly, or kapanen. Still not that crazy. Maybe I signed him a year too long, but I think he'd be a really good fit beside rielly, and comes at a relatively affordable price. Take the 4th year away if you'd like

Imo, too much. I like Bonino, but that's a hefty price for a rental.

I'd also be cautious with Hamonic. After a pretty tough year for him and being about to turn 30... Personally that's not a contract I'm interested in.

No torches or pitchforks, Hawks just don't want/need Kerfoot so we decline.

well then you are talking to the wrong ones. He's not a god, but if we cant get good value for him its better to let him develop and see if he can realize his potential a little more.

But also, I actually might be in the minority of Hawks fans here, I dont mind this too much from a Hawks perspective. Its not my favorite trade, as I still believe Nylander has room to grow in the NHL and I think he can make strides next year, but if we were to trade Strome, Kerfoot would be the perfect 3c.

Right now? probably an overpay -- but at the deadline, who knows. NSH could be getting offers of a 1st for retained Bonino, so it depends what NSH is interesting in - cap space and picks or a current middle 6 forward. I think this would be a good deal for NSH though.

Not a chance Chicago touches that deal. A) we don't have any use for Kerfoot and B) Nylander is more valuable then Kerfoot and 4th. Also, 1 year later this trade becomes Jokiharju and a 4th for Kerfoot which is embarrassing so no way Hawks do this.

Name who? There is one guy on here Stan Bowman who thinks that. The rest of think Nylander has all the natural talent but the question is can he put it together and is he committed. If so, he can be a top 6 player but if not he will he be a bottom 6 who plays 50 to 65 games a year and flames out 3 to 4 years from now? His upside though is valuable. To give an example of where some of us think his value is at, he and a 3rd or 4th for Kap today is fair value. He has more natural talent then Kap but Kap is clearly better right now and Nylander might never materialize. On the other hand, if Nylander materializes, he will be better then Kap hands down...maybe not William his brother but Alex can be very good in the NHL if he commits himself...which is a BIG questionmark. The good news and as soon as the Hawks opened up their practice facility, day 1 he was on the ice with Kane and Debrincat as the only 4 that showed up (don't know who was the 4th). Don't think Nylander would have done that in Buffalo.

Logic is that they'd trade strome, then have Toews - Dach - Kerfoot down the middle. If more picks are needed (such as changing the 4th to a 3rd), then fine. You don't make deals to stop yourself from embarrassment, you make deals to make your team better. If Nylander starts the season in Chicago and isn't anything special again, I don't see why they wouldn't trade him for a proven top 9 F/3C

My exact thinking behind this. Trading strome leaves you Toews - Dach - Kerfoot, which isn't bad at all. And if picks need to be changed up to make the value better, fine

Strome is miles better then Kerfoot and isn't going to cost much if anything more on bridge. Hawks have Toews, Strome, Dach, Kampf, and a good prospect in Barratt who's turning pro this year. Barratt is projected as a 3rd pairing in a year...maybe 2. Hawks simply don't have the cap space to bring in Kerfott, Strome will be bridged at $3.5m to $4m, for a downgrade. They will sign Strome and if Dach continues to progress and Barratt is as advertised, then they will consider trading Strome at the TDL, next offseason or the TDL in the following season. There is zero reason for the Hawks to waive the flag on Nylander and bring in a worse 3C then what they have today.

why would strome accept a 3.5 mil bridge from a (regularly should be) non playoff team after a season where he was on pace for 54 points in a full season as a 6'3 200pound 23 year old centerman? He'll get a minimum of 4.75M on a bridge from many teams, probably more from a center-starved team like minny, and could get traded for a pretty good package. You can't deny that its a decent possibility that he gets moved, and that Barratt should not be relied on to be the 3C early in the season, as if he's such a great prospect, you don't want to have to force him and harm his development if he's not ready for that role.

Because he's an RFA and doesn't have arbitration rights. Furthermore, it's in his best interest to take a 2 or 3 year bridge to score big on his next contract especially after knowing the Hawks took a chance on him when his career was off the rails in Arizona. This is a wide point of view by chicago hockey analysts including the well respected Laz and Scott Powers of The Athletic. There's possibility he gets moved sure, but unlikely they bring in a significantly worse guy in Kerfoot for close to $4M in cap hit while trading a good prospect in Nylander to do so. Doesn't make any sense.

Regarding Barratt, he's going on 22 this coming season and while he should spend this season mostly in the AHL, he will be ready the season after. Beyond that, if they trade Strome, then there is also a good chance they target Lundell (whom they've been scouting) in the upcoming draft who again would be a much better option then Kerfoot. Additionally, Kampf has and can be a 3C as well. There are just too many options for the Hawks that are better then Kerfoot, sorry, but Hawks aren't trading Nylander for a guy like Kerfoot or giving up assets for Kerfoot.

so you're gonna rush Lundell into the league? Not many 9-12 overall picks make the jump the first year after being drafted

Very deep top 15 draft as I'm sure you are aware, and many experts agree Lundell is one of the top 3 if not the top NHL ready prospect this draft. His upside isn't as high, likely a 2C or at worst 3C which is why he's not ranked higher in the draft.

He's got two years playing in the Finnish men's pro league...that's far less of a jump to the NHL then the juniors or NCAA. I'm not going to speak in absolutes, plenty said no way on Dach either prior to the draft but arguably Hughes and KK should have spent another year developing when people thought those guys were plug and play as Dach proved he belonged in the show.
