why are flames fans obsessed with trading Gaudreau? like yeah sure he struggled this year, but hes the best forward this franchise has had since Iggy. Of his 6 seasons in Calgary, 3 have been a PPG+ including last years monstrous 99 point year. Even on a bad year like this season, he's still good for over 65 points and hes signed to a cheap contract. The only possible way I could see a gaudreau trade is if Flames won Laf, because they'd have Laf/Tkachuck as their left wingers

It's a select few, people who don't want to trade him (like myself because its a stupid idea) dont make threads. It's kinda funny too, last year he still had a massive fall off at the tail end of the season that people seem to forget about. Before the All-Star week Gaudrea had 29 goals and 73 points in the first 51 games. He was pacing for 47 goals and 117 points.

Nothing wrong with wanting a change and figuring Gaudreau may be the way to go. With that said, whats inexcusable is selling an asset, one you may not like or not, lower than its value.

Don't like Gaudreau and think he sucks? Fine, but the rest of the league likes him a lot so you'd think you'd expect a massive return for that asset. The trade above just seems like OP is content with getting less than fair value for the asset. Not sure how someone can be both a fan of the team and also not want to maximize the value they get in a trade. NO disrespect to the players involved the other way. They're good players but just not the type of players you'd make in a Gaudreau trade.

Not enough for Gaudreau and Columbus still isn’t making this trade. We have no need or want to move Peeke, Bremstrom or our 2020 1st. Lmao.

Honestly Columbus doesn’t want Gaudreau either. We don’t have any need for a wing. If it was Monahan then maybe as we need a center.

Pretty much every proposal that has Gaudreau traded also has Hall signed as a UFA. It's been speculated that there is possibly mutual interest between the Flames and Hall. If that happens then it makes sense to trade Gaudreau to upgrade other areas of the roster and/or add to the prospect cupboard. Why Gaudreau? He only has two years left on his deal and many believe/fear he will head East on his next deal.

CBJ would jump all over this trade. They trade spare parts for an elite winger to play with PLD.

Yes and then they are worse when Gaudreau, Jones, and Werenski all need extension and Jones is the only RHD on the roster... try again. It’s not just spare parts. Gaudreau is good but not worth us trading what limited prospects and picks we have. Peeke is far more important to Columbus as he and Jones will likely be the only RHD on the roster following next season as Savard is a UFA. Bremstrom is a decent 3rd line RW can hopefully develop into a good depth scorer. Not to mention the 1st when we’ve only used 2 in the last 5 years. (Werenski and PLD)

So if you read what I said Calgary is underpay for Gaudreau the fit isn’t in Columbus. We also don’t exactly need a wing right now. We need a second line center.

The reason is because he is going to walk in free agency anyways. There was a lot of talk of him wanting to do what Adam fox did before he ever even signed in CGY. There's a very slim chance he stays. While yes, he is a very skilled and talented player, he is very one dimensional and has showed that he can't produce in the playoffs. The dilemna is do you consider selling him high (after his 99 point season) or do you want to keep him till his last yr and sell high at a trade deadline? You cant risk him pulling a Tavares and you can get an absolute haul in return...

Would Gaudreau be useful here? Absolutely. But giving up those pieces opens too many holes, and the high probability of Gaudreau walking after his current contract ends opens up even more (and even if he doesn't, needing to get resigned around the same time as several of our core players makes things even more awkward).

The only argument that could be made in favour that this trade doesn’t make sense for CBJ is that Gaudreau may not sign here long term after his contract expires. Which means in a few year span, CBJ lost Bob, Panarin, Duchene, and Gaudreau to free agency. Not good

The thing with Gaudreau is that hes not really a playoff performer that will lead a team, and he more than likely will test the market and/or just prefer to sign somewhere closer to his home area.

So it's either they hang onto him and hope he can get it going over the next few playoffs with the tougher playoff style, OR they look at trading him for a strong return before he becomes a rental player.

If there wasn't any concern about him leaving at the end of his contract I don't think Flames fans would be considering trading him at this point. Yes it's probably a season early, but it's definitely a situation Treliving is thinking about and has to consider.

Putting up 100 pts in the regular season and vanishing in the playoffs isn't really what the Flames are looking for. They're trying to get passed the "just make the playoffs" mentality and become an actual contender.

Which at this point, I don't think they are there yet with the current forward group.
