Domi for 8th Overall

Créé par: OldNYIfan

Date de création initiale: 3 juill. 2020

Description
The main trade is from an idea presented by sabertooth12, who also suggested working Cozens in at #2 RW and putting Mittelstadt back on the horse at #3 C -- all of which I like.

Del Zotto and Irwin provide a bridge to Johnson and Samuelsson.

The Sutter trade acquires a second and assures $8 million in the bank to sign Dahlin and Jokiharju next summer.

The guy's playing #2 C, not replacing Jack Eichel. Domi for the next two years is better than the guy drafted at #8 making the team in 2022-2023. Imagine that the guy picked at #8 is the next Cody Glass.

Yeah Domi doesn’t push them over the edge and if Eichel wants out adding Domi doesn’t fix that... only thing more frustrating than not making playoffs is getting embarrassed in the 1st round. Does Domi make this team better than Boston toronto or Tampa ? It’s not better than a Metronwild card like CJB Pittsburgh PhILLY or the islanders. What part makes this a playoffs team? Maybe 2 years from now is the right move.

Buffalo should hang on to the pick. Elc's will be necessary as Dahlin and Jokiharju will be needing extensions and they wont come cheap.
8 mill for both will not be enough as Dahlin needs to be signed to a long term deal to prevent him leaving early as a UFA.

Rossi should work out well for them and Buffalo wont have to worry about an extension for 3 years while Domi costing 6mill could become a problem for them sooner than people think.

Thatd make sense for MTL if a guy like Sanderson was available... And I think Rossi would have to be gone before 8 for BUF to trade the pick. Value is somewhat close but the CHI pick is definitely too much... STL 2nd is for sure enough.

2020 draft
1.mtl-Laffy
2.la-Stutzle
3.ott-Byfield
4.det-Perfetti
5.ott-Rossi
6.ana-Drysdale
7.nj-Raymond
8.mtl-Sanderson

Not that it matters much since you would be picking 8th in this scenario but I think Detroit's first choice is Rossi and second is Raymond. Unless one of the first 3 teams pulls a Darko.

Two years from now? They haven't made the playoffs in NINE seasons! I really don't see this fan base or more importantly Eichel having the patience to wait around hoping the 8th overall pick turns out to be a savior.

I was reading through this thread as well as my own and SABERTOOTH12's and noticed a couple of common patterns. 1. Most Buffalo fans are either all for or on the fence about trading Domi for the 8th OVA pick which suggests to me that the value is close. 2. Most of the ones opposed to it are other Atlantic Division teams fans which suggests 2 things they know the value is there and are worried that both Montreal and Buffalo will get stronger from such a trade over the next few years and the division will become a tighter race where their teams may not make the playoffs. 3. Most of the fans not in the Atlantic suggest Domi's value is worth 8th OVA or at least Domi would be more valuable to the Sabres than the 8th OVA pick to both keeping Eichel in town and accelerating the retool.

I think the people that disagree have common sense and understand that 50-55 point center doesn’t get you a 8th overall pick. what part of this speeds up the rebuild. Does domi make this team better than Toronto Boston or Tampa? How about Pittsburgh Washington philly CBJ islanders or Rangers? Imo no. So if Eichel wants out get a massive return and do an actual rebuild like the rangers did. Quick and intelligently. Getting slightly better but still not being a playoff team seems stupid when giving up a major asset

If this is the case why not trade the 8 Oa for a better player? Why not offersheet barzel? Like go all in this seems like putting a bandage on a severed leg. Tampa have 2 centers and 1 has to be available

And I think the people who agree that Domi is worth 8th OVA and are the ones that have a better understanding of hockey in general! They know that a proven NHL top 6 talent is worth more than the hope that an 8th OVA prospect will be an impact player. Being a high draft pick garuntees nothing take Puljujarvi for example picked what was it 3rd OVA really has not done much! Or how about Galchenyuk again a 3rd OVA pick and is on his what 5th team since being drafted! Or how about any of Buffalos own 4 8th OVA selections are any of them better than Domi? Nope! Prospects are great when they work out but of the 200+ drafted a year only something like 20% ever make the NHL and maybe 10% are impact players.

Last 2 8oa picks were Boqvist and Caufield . This year Rossi is projected to be available at 8? You don’t think that kid can put up 50-55 points by 21-22? He was the best center coming out of the OHL. If you want to trade him for Domi that’s fine but when it looks like Erat for Forsberg people in Buffalo will likely be way more upset. You are so worried about them being good next year but it’ll take more than Domi for that to be true... most of Buffalo issue are player development or terrible trades. ROR might be the worst trade in the last 10 years

Yes, top PROSPECT that's the key word prospect not top NHL player or impact player or even rookie. Prospect and we are headed into season 2 of his development maybe he makes the NHL this year maybe he doesn't but he will still not make an impact on the roster for like 2 maybe 3 more years. Do you think Buffalo has that much time to turn things around for Eichel? I don't! Plus someone mentioned on my thread that the Sabres owners were cheap that's why they don't go and get top end talent to bolster their roster do you really think that if that is the case they will pony up 10+ Mil for Barzal to get him out of NY or would they go with A 2C for half the price who may not be as skilled but can still help keep their cash cow in town? Hockey is also politics my friend and sometimes with the smaller market teams politics wins

Idk they paid skinner 9m idk if they are cheap. I could be wrong. Either imo domi doesn’t make this team a playoff team. Just my opinion I could be wrong (it happens all the time)

I disagree a true second line center makes the Sabres a better team much like he did last season for the Habs who by the way missed the P.O. by 1 point when Domi was the 2nd line C this year they dropped him on the depth chart and the teams overall play suffered they were not as big of a threat to score as often. If Buffalo lines up

Skinner-Eichel-Reinhart
Olofsson-Domi-Johansson

Certainly at the very least pushes them in the right direction! At least more than the current lineup!

As for paying Skinner 9 Mil your right that doesn't sound much like a cheap owner but like I said I was quoting someone from another thread. Their exact quote escapes me right now but it was something like they are going broke and are cheap that's why they are not spending the money to fix the team in FA.

Caulfield was 15th overall. 8th overall was Philip Broberg, who probably won't be ready in 2020-2021.

Why “ “ top protect? And I didn’t realize they had a deadline to be good. Bc domi imo doesn’t make them better than Tampa Boston Toronto. They still struggle to be a playoffs team. If you want domi that’s fine but don’t overpay it’s just silly.

You didn't realize the Sabres have a deadline to be good! Eichel is on record of saying he is tired of losing and not making the playoffs! That says I want to be competitive NOW not in 1-3 years! If not I am going to want out.

Also it was noted now on another thread that the Sabres need 2 things 1. Obviously a 2C. 2. A top 6 forward that plays a Gallagher type of game, one who plays an in your face type of game while still having great skill. Domi fills both these needs. He fills the role of a 2C which the Sabres desperately need now and IF they draft a player in one of the later rounds or if one of their current prospects does over take Domi for the 2C he can easily transfer to the wing and still play a Gallagher type of role.

But I'm NOT trading Domi for the 8th overall pick -- I'm trading the 8th overall pick for Domi plus the 39th overall pick.

Moreover, I hold @sabertooth12 in pretty high esteem as a "knowledgeable Buffalo fan," and he gets the credit if any is due for the goodness of this idea; as the saying goes, I get the criticism if it's a bad one.

Ah thanks haha I just want to see Eichel stay, which means win now for the Sabres. This trade makes sense for both sides

How much better is Domi than Johansen? I imagine you could get him for much cheaper. His cap hit would be higher but you also don’t lose the 8overall pick

He's a declining player on a terrible contract. No thanks
