Créé par: Richard88
Équipe: 2020-21 Avalanche du Colorado
Date de création initiale: 30 juin 2020
Publié: 30 juin 2020
Mode - plafond salarial: Basique
Description
The idea here is to acquire some near NHL-ready prospects who can make the team in 2021 to replace some outgoing veterans on ELC's and thereby save $11m in capspace to resign Makar (+$8m raise); Landeskog (+$2m raise); Grubauer +$1m raise):

- Calvert (UFA) -----------> Jenik (saves $2m)
- Bellemare (UFA) ------> Bowers (saves $1m)
- Cole (UFA) --------------> Timmins (saves $3m)
- Graves (trade) --------> Alexeyev (saves $2m). (Note: we'd sell high on Graves in 2021 once Byram has settled)
- Donskoi (Seattle) ----> Newhook (saves $3m)

Expansion Draft Protection (7+3+1):
- Mackinnon, Rantanen, Landeskog, Kadri, Hall, Burakovsky, Compher
- Makar, Girard, Johnson (NMC)
- Grubauer
Exposed: Donskoi, Nichuskin, Carlsson, Francouz (Donskoi selected)

I just went with Hall since I had $8.5m capspace left unused and a roster spot at forward free. He's more of a placeholder, as I'm more curious to hear what people think of these 3 prospect trades.

Why wouldn't you do the Jenik trade? Of the 3 trades I think that's probably the least likely to get accepted.

jost already established himself in role and has potential. not interested in trading him for futures. would rather trade him for someone who's played in the nhl if need be.

Yeah gotta agree with DD on this, Jost is going to be on the cheap even if it is short term, and you know what he is capable of. The more time goes along the less interested I become in Hall except on a short term deal.

Interesting ideas. I think the Caps just re-sign Dillon and call it a day. They don't need to trade for Z (IMO).

I don't think either team does the Jost for Jenik trade. The Avs need the flexibility of a guy that can play in the bottom six but also fill in on a scoring line when necessary, while Arizona needs the offensive potential.

Carlsson would be nice to have, but I'm not sure the Jackets do it. I'm on board with that one though.

My favorite part is the Hall contract. Curious if folks who are against Hall are also against extending Landeskog. Hall is only one year older and plays a game that probably lends itself to longevity more so than Landy.

Caps hard pass. Zad is an overpaid bottom pairing defensemen, Alexeyev has top 3 talent. And Caps are already loaded at LHD so they don't need Zad.

I'm in favor of picking up Kamenev, but IIRC @Ajp_18 would rather keep Carlsson.

no way ARZ gives up Jenik for Jost, or the caps give up Alex Alex for Zads

In most seasons I would agree with you, but with the Expansion Draft in 2021 it makes sense to acquire assets or players that will be exempt from the ED. Either that or package him to get a top 6 forward who we'll protect. Just doesn't make sense to unnecessarily carry players that we'll have to leave unprotected.

If we keep Jost then we either:

A) continue with Donskoi on the 2nd line and Jost on the 3rd line while leaving $8m capspace unused.

or

B) Sign a top 6 forward, pushing Jost down to the 4th line.

Neither of those options are great. Option A means we miss out on an opportunity to have a super strong team in 2020/21. And option B means that Jost's value will drop. If we're moving him this would be the time to do so.

Alexeyev hasn't played a single NHL game yet. And the clock is ticking on Washington's cup window. I think you're underrating Zadorov a bit there. He's paid fine for what he offers, as he isn't a typical 3rd pair Dman.

How about Lucas Johansen as an alternative instaed of AA?

Just because someone drafted a player doesn’t mean they still like that player. I’d rather keep Carlsson to play the exact same role you have him in. Tbh I think he’s better then Harrington is... if you want Harrington he’s all yours. I also see a plan to use Carlsson in the future, I don’t see a plan for Kamenev in Columbus, unless he turns into a better defensive center or wing he’ll get buried in Columbus.

With a flat cap I wouldnt mind using our salary cap space and going after Hoffman.. A pure goal scorer for the 2nd line. 1 year 8 million. Not many teams that are good will have cap space.

I like the idea of a 1 year deal for a top 6 forward.

That said, I'm not sure such a deal will be possible as players will probably still go for long-term security over 1 year deals, even at slightly lower AAV than they'd otherwise get. Especially someone who's already 30 like Hoffman.

I'm also not sure another shooter is what we need on the 2nd line, given that we already have two shooters in Kadri and Burakovsky. A playmaker would be a better fit.

fair enough but i'd rather go for a cup than worry about losing a 3rd liner.

We can do both, go for a cup AND avoid losing assets unnecessarily.
