On what planet has Rasmussen struggled? The only reason he played in Detroit his first year was because Juniors was no longer an option for him and he wasn't eligible to play in Grand Rapids. He was basically 3rd and 4th line material. Honestly until his injury he was our best forward in Grand Rapids this past season. Zadorov at best is worth a 2nd round pick and Rasmussen is our #9 pick from 2017. Rasmussen is worth more then Nikita Zadorov whom would be our bottom pairing LD. So no thanks.

i don't think detroit does the first trade

colorado should pass on the 2nd trade. $6m and jost is a lot for a 40 pt player. avs would be better off just re-signing namestnikov or going after a free agent.

third trade is fine.

Maybe. I would prefer compher over jost, but it would have to be a 2nd with it. Honestly I would rather just keep saad. My guess is managment thinks we can get one more run in with toews, kane, and kieth, and having saad would be a big part of that, much more so than a compher or jost would be in my opinion

Agree but I like Compher's game a lot plus the hometown Northbrook kid would be great in a Hawks sweater. A 2nd and I think we should do it, but to your point, playing against Saad next season will not be fun for our guys....Saad is such a great all around 200 foot player that does most everything well

Let's put it into context...

Hawks have $175k in capspace, and need to give raises to Kubalik, Strome, and Koekkoek, while also either resigning Crawford or acquiring a new starting goalie.

As a pending UFA with a $6m caphit coming off a 33 point season, Saad makes the most sense to move to open up sufficient capspace for the aforementioned re-signings.

That said, few teams are going to have the capspace to take on a $6m contract without sending money back. And of those that do have the capspace, most are rebuilding and won't want to pay futures for a pending UFA.

Given those circumstances, I'd say that Jost + 3rd is a fairly reasonable offer.

Rasmussen showed promise last year when not injured. I’d much rather go after Dillon or Edmundson in free agency as they will command comparable pay and performance.

Compher isn't really available though. Avs are buyers, not sellers, and Compher is a key part of the team given that he's our 3C and on the 1st PK unit.

How are Chicago going to manage to resign Strome, Kubalik, etc without moving a pending UFA like Saad?

Being realistic, even if Chicago sneak into the playoffs they aren't anywhere near to making noise, especially not since they have to go through two of Colorado/Dallas/St Louis to start with. As such they're better off building for the future.

I was under the impression that his value had gone down a bit since the 2017 draft. It's been 3 years since he was drafted and he hasn't really done anything of note.

Zadorov will bring back a 2nd + 3rd, or a high 2nd.

Free agents aren't really ideal to sign as you often have to overpay in AAV and/or term. Detroit already has enough older stop-gaps they need to clear off the roster. Much better to focus on players who can be part of the actual rebuild, and at 25 Zadorov is young enough to fit.

Same here, From what Yzerman stated he'll probably be looking for a short term LD. Unless by a miracle Krug comes home. But think he stays in Boston for cheap.

We've got plenty of money for kubalik, strome, and crawford. Just have to move out a defenceman because we have like 10 that could be NHLers. Maata is probbaly the odd man out.

Which is exactly why we would move Saad for a late 1st rounder and a young player or decent prospect. At least a half dozen teams have inquired about him in the last 12 months according to the beat writer sources offering a 1st and Hawks have said no. They will wait till next year's TDL if Hawks are out of the playoffs.

Hawks have cap space, they will move Maatta or De Haan and Shaw is likely going on LITR for the remainder of his contract...they don't "need to" move Saad.

We have plenty of money to resign our RFA's and Crawford as log as we move one of Maata or Dehaan. Not worried at all. Saad does not need to be traded. Shaw will be on LTIR which saves 3.9mil, Maata gets traded which saves 4 mil, and crow will likley make 2 mil or so less than what he made this year.

Maybe you did get calls on Saad, but that was when teams would have gotten 2 playoffs out of him, and also before a flat cap. It's unlikely that teams would want to pay a 1st for him now in a flat cap league. Prices for UFA's and trades will have gone down a lot due to the flat cap.

I think the odds of Krug leaving are better now than they were at the start of the season. It looks like the cap is going to be $81.5M for a while given how much the revenue the owners and league have lost. So I could see Boston not resigning him,

Take a look at what Toffoli just pulled in as a playoff rental and 18 months older then Saad and I don't think many people would argue Saad is a superior player.

Unfortunately the cap situation will be stagnant for this year, but when the playoffs start....if the NHL gets moving in another 6 weeks, people will be salivating to watch a sport and any sport. I bet the TV viewership will skyrocket more then a normal playoff year which should be good to recoup revenues or part of the regular season lost revenues. As such, I expect a modest increase next summer and with Seattle playing a big increase in the summer of 2022. Just my 2 cents

If Fenton was still here he would make that trade.

I don't think Guerin does though. Playing Kunin at 3C and getting Donato into the lineup would have the same overall effect as this trade and Kunin at wing. Besides is Kamenev any better than what MN has in Strum? It just seems like a low risk/low reward type of deal for a team that is already filled with LHS FWDs.

no one needs to replace maata. We have too many defenceman and ironically most of them are pretty mediocre. Currently have: Kieth, dehaan, maata, koekkoek, carlson, beaudan, seeler, gilbert, Boqvist, Seabs, Murphy who all played in the NHL last season, plus Ian Mitchell will probably play at least 40 games in the NHL next season. That makes 12 NHL defenceman fighting for 6 spots. We can afford to lose maata no problem. Seeler probably goes back on waivers, gilbert in rockford, beaudan might play some games but spends most of the year in rockford, carlson, koekkoek , and seabs can fight for 6th and 7th dman. Carlson can go to rockford if we need him to.
